How one-to-one ISC tuition works

Our ISC tuition runs in four steps: a diagnostic, a written plan, a weekly teaching cycle, and paper practice with review. ISC papers reward full working and clear derivations, so we start from how your child actually writes answers.

Step 1: The diagnostic

The first session is a short test on chapters done at school, followed by a review of the answers together. In ISC Class 11 and 12, lost marks usually fall into four types:

• Concept gaps: the student follows a solved example but cannot start a fresh question.
• Carried-over gaps from Class 10: weak algebra, trigonometry or basic mole calculations that Class 11 builds on quickly.
• Derivations and reasoning: ISC theory papers ask students to derive and explain, not only to state results. Many students know the formula but cannot show where it comes from.
• Presentation and time: missing units, unlabelled diagrams, skipped steps, or too slow to finish a three-hour paper.

Here is the kind of question we use in the diagnostic for ISC Class 12 Maths. Find the local maximum and minimum values of f(x) = x³ − 6x² + 9x + 1. A student with good habits writes f′(x) = 3x² − 12x + 9 = 3(x − 1)(x − 3), so the stationary points are x = 1 and x = 3. Then f″(x) = 6x − 12 gives f″(1) = −6 (a maximum) and f″(3) = 6 (a minimum). The local maximum value is f(1) = 5 and the local minimum value is f(3) = 1. Stopping at x = 1 and x = 3 misses what was asked: the values. Step 2: The plan

The tutor then writes a plan with the family: chapters in your school's order, unit tests, half-yearly and pre-board dates, practical and project deadlines, and the board exam window. For JEE or NEET aspirants, it also marks where the entrance syllabus goes beyond ISC.

From the second term of Class 12, the student writes full timed papers. The tutor sorts every lost mark: did not know, slipped, ran out of time, or wrote it the wrong way. Each needs a different fix. Our guide on how to use ISC specimen papers explains how we use them.

From our tutors: the ISC habit that pays most is writing derivations from memory once a week, not just reading them. Students who can read a derivation often freeze on a blank page. Writing it, checking it and rewriting it a week later is slow at first, but long answers feel far easier by the pre-boards.

The ISC 2027 exam: subjects, marks and pass rules

The ISC (Indian School Certificate) is the Class 12 exam of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). For 2027, a student takes English plus four or five elective subjects, each subject has a pass mark of 35%, and a student must reach the pass standard in five or six subjects, including English. The facts below come from the ISC Regulations for Examination, Year 2027 and the ISC 2027 subject syllabuses on cisce.org, checked on 29 September 2026. Rules can change, so always check the latest CISCE circulars and ask your school.

Choice of subjects

• English is compulsory (or Modern English, but not both). It has two components, English Language and Literature in English, each with an 80-mark theory paper and 20 marks of project work.
• Four or five electives, with a maximum of six subjects including English. Electives include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Accountancy, Commerce, Business Studies, Economics, languages and humanities subjects.
• Mathematics (860) or Applied Mathematics (885), not both. CISCE points Mathematics 860 at Engineering, Architecture and the physical sciences, and Applied Mathematics 885 at Commerce, Economics, Humanities and Biosciences.
• Subjects are fixed early. Students cannot change subjects after 15 September of the year they register in Class 11, and cannot take a subject in Class 12 that they did not study in Class 11. This is why the Class 11 subject choice matters so much.
• Practical subjects need the practical exam. If a subject has a practical paper and the student does not take it, the subject counts as incomplete.

Marks by subject (ISC 2027)

We have not listed Accounts and Commerce in this table because we could not find their 2027-dated syllabus files on cisce.org when we checked; our tutors work from the syllabus your school issues for these subjects.

Passing, grades and the improvement exam

• Pass mark: 35% in each subject.
• To qualify: the pass standard in five or six subjects, including English, plus a pass grade in Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service (SUPW), which the school assesses. Earlier ISC regulations asked for four subjects, so this is a stricter rule for the 2027 batch.
• Grades: each subject is graded 1 to 9, where 1 is the highest. Grades 1 to 6 are a pass with credit, 7 or 8 a pass, and 9 a fail. SUPW is graded A to E, where E is a fail.
• Attendance: at least 75% of working days, ordinarily. CISCE can condone a shortage only if attendance is not below 60% in each year of the two-year course.
• Improvement exam: in the same year as the main exam, in up to two subjects. The theory paper must be taken; practical and project marks from the main exam carry forward. The higher of the two marks counts. Students marked absent in the main exam are not eligible.

Exam dates and specimen papers

The ISC 2027 timetable had not been published when we checked (29 September 2026); CISCE's regulations say it is made available to schools online well before the exam. Our ISC board exam 2027 preparation plan will be updated when the timetable is out.

Physics (861)

The Class 12 theory paper (70 marks) covers Electrostatics and Current Electricity (14 marks together), Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism with Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents (16), Electromagnetic Waves (2), Optics (18), Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter (7), Atoms and Nuclei (6) and Electronic Devices (7). Class 11 covers mechanics, properties of bulk matter, heat and thermodynamics, kinetic theory, and oscillations and waves.

How we teach it: derivations written out and checked, numericals set out with units, and practicals linked to theory. A typical Class 12 question: capacitors of 3 μF and 6 μF are connected in series across a 12 V supply; find the charge on each and the voltage across each. The combined capacitance is 1 ÷ (1/3 + 1/6) = 2 μF, so the charge is 2 × 12 = 24 μC on each capacitor (series capacitors carry the same charge). Chemistry (862)

The Class 12 theory paper (70 marks) has three parts: Physical Chemistry (25 marks: solutions, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics), Inorganic Chemistry (14: d- and f-block elements, coordination compounds) and Organic Chemistry (31: haloalkanes and haloarenes; alcohols, phenols and ethers; aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids; organic compounds containing nitrogen; biomolecules). Class 11 builds the base: mole concept, atomic structure, bonding, thermodynamics, equilibrium, redox, and the first organic chapters.

How we teach it: reaction maps for organic, step-by-step numericals for physical, and regular recall practice for inorganic chemistry.

Mathematics (860)

The Class 12 theory paper (80 marks) covers Relations and Functions (10), Algebra (10: matrices and determinants), Calculus (35), Vector Algebra (5), Three-Dimensional Geometry (6), Linear Programming (5) and Probability (9). Calculus alone carries 35 of 80 marks. Class 11 covers Sets and Functions (18), Algebra (26), Coordinate Geometry (20), Calculus (8) and Statistics and Probability (8).

Biology (863)

The Class 12 theory paper (70 marks) covers Reproduction (16), Genetics and Evolution (15), Biology and Human Welfare (14), Biotechnology and its Applications (10) and Ecology and Environment (15). Class 11 covers diversity of living organisms, structural organisation, the cell, and plant and human physiology. CISCE says all structures are taught with diagrams.

How we teach it: labelled diagrams drawn by the student, process flow charts, and short answers using the correct terms.

Accounts, Commerce, Business Studies and Economics

We support Accounts, Commerce, Business Studies and Economics. The ISC 2027 Class 12 Economics theory paper (80 marks) splits evenly between Microeconomic Theory and Macroeconomics (40 each), with National Income the largest macro unit (12). Students taking Applied Mathematics (885) get maths support too.

English (801)

ISC English has two papers. English Language (80 marks) has a composition, directed writing and proposal writing, grammar and usage, and comprehension. Literature in English (80 marks) is based on prescribed drama, short stories and poetry. Each component also carries 20 marks of project work. English must be passed, so it deserves steady attention even from Science students.

How we teach it: weekly compositions, practised formats, and literature answers that stay close to the text.

ISC with JEE or NEET

ISC Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology overlap heavily with the JEE Main and NEET (UG) syllabi, so one tutor can plan boards and entrance preparation together. The gaps are short; know them in Class 11. We compared the ISC 2027 syllabuses with the JEE (Main) 2026 syllabus from NTA and the NEET (UG) 2026 syllabus published by the National Medical Commission (NMC), checked on 29 September 2026.

Two practical points. First, NEET (UG) 2026 was a pen-and-paper exam of 180 questions for 720 marks; the 3 May 2026 exam was cancelled, and the re-examination was held on 21 June 2026, so check NTA notices for the 2027 schedule. Second, for admission to NITs, IIITs and other institutes through JoSAA, the JEE (Main) 2026 bulletin sets a Class 12 condition: at least 75% aggregate in five subjects (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates), or a place in the top 20 percentile of the candidate's board. This makes ISC marks matter even for JEE aspirants. Check the bulletin for your own year.

ISC Class 11 vs Class 12

Class 11 is examined by the school, not CISCE, but it decides promotion, fixes Class 12 subjects and lays the base for boards and JEE or NEET. Families searching for home tutors near me for Class 11 often come to us after the first unit test, when the jump from Class 10 becomes obvious. ISC Class 11 tuition works best when it starts early in the year, before gaps pile up.

Practicals and projects

In ISC Physics, Chemistry and Biology, 30 of 100 marks come from outside the theory paper: a three-hour practical exam (15), project work (10) and the practical file (5). In Maths, Economics, Business Studies and English, project work is 20 marks. These marks are the most predictable in the whole exam, so we plan them from the start of the year.

• Physics project types: the ISC 2027 syllabus allows a theoretical project, a working model or an investigatory project. The report should include a title, abstract, theory, setup, observations with data tables, analysis, and a conclusion, and the teacher must approve the draft. In Class 12, a Visiting Examiner assesses the project and the practical file.
• Maths projects: two projects of 10 marks each, marked on overall format (1), content (4), findings (2) and a viva-voce (3). Suggested topics include graphing inverse trigonometric functions, local and absolute maxima and minima, Bayes' theorem, and linear programming problems.
• Practical files: assessed on the record kept through the year, so each experiment should be written up the week it is done.
