ISC Board Exam 2027: Timetable Status and a Month-by-Month Preparation Plan

As of 29 September 2026, CISCE has not published the ISC board exam 2027 timetable. Last year's timetable came out on 13 November 2025. The 2026 theory papers ran from 12 February to 6 April 2026, with Chemistry on 23 February, Mathematics on 9 March and Physics on 16 March. So the safest plan is to be exam-ready by early February 2027. That means finishing the syllabus by November, submitting projects and practical files on your school's dates, using the December–January pre-boards as rehearsals, and then revising paper by paper through February and March.

This guide is part of our ISC home tutors in Gurgaon series for Class 11 and 12 families. It sets out what CISCE has confirmed, what the 2026 exam looked like, how ISC marks are made up, a month-by-month plan from April, a weekly routine, and how to fit JEE or NEET preparation around the board year. Where a date is set by your school rather than by CISCE, we say so.

ISC 2027 timetable: what is confirmed

CISCE's ISC Year 2027 Regulations say only that "the Timetable will be made available to all schools online well before the commencement of the examination." No dates for 2027 had been published on cisce.org when we checked on 29 September 2026. Here is what is already fixed or published for the 2027 exam:

The 2026 timetable as a guide

CISCE's ISC Year 2026 timetable, dated 13 November 2025, ran the theory papers from Psychology on Thursday 12 February to Geography on Monday 6 April. Nearly every paper started at 2:00 pm. Here are the dates for common Class 12 subjects:

Date (2026)PaperGap before the next science or Maths paper
Friday 13 FebruaryEnglish Paper 1 (English Language)—
Monday 16 FebruaryEnglish Paper 2 (Literature in English)7 days to Chemistry
Friday 20 FebruaryAccounts—
Monday 23 FebruaryChemistry Paper 1 (Theory)11 days to Biology
Friday 27 FebruaryCommerce—
Friday 6 MarchBiology Paper 1 (Theory)3 days to Mathematics
Monday 9 MarchMathematics7 days to Physics
Friday 13 MarchIndian languages, including Hindi—
Monday 16 MarchPhysics Paper 1 (Theory)—
Monday 23 MarchEconomics—
Friday 27 MarchComputer Science Paper 1 (Theory)—
Monday 6 AprilGeography (last paper)—

Four lessons from 2026 carry over, even though the 2027 order may differ:

  • Timing. Reading time for 2:00 pm papers began at 1:45 pm, and candidates had to be seated by 1:30 pm. Practise full papers in the afternoon, not only in the morning.
  • Gaps. The gaps between science papers ranged from 3 to 11 days. Plan a short revision cycle for each gap, not one long revision before the first paper.
  • Length. For a PCM or PCB student, English Paper 1 to Physics was 31 days in 2026. That is a long stretch to stay rested and focused.
  • What you may carry. The 2026 directions allowed a Casio fx-82 MS or a similar calculator without information-retrieval features. Smart watches, phones and any notes were not allowed.

The 2026 results were declared on 30 April 2026, and an improvement exam followed from 15 June to 1 July 2026.

How your ISC marks are made up

A large share of each science and Maths mark is earned before the theory paper. The ISC 2027 syllabuses set it out like this:

SubjectTheory paperOther componentsWho assesses the other components
Physics70 marks, 3 hoursPractical exam 15 (3 hours); project 10; practical file 5Visiting Examiner (project and file)
Chemistry70 marks, 3 hoursPractical exam 15 (3 hours); project 10; practical file 5As set out in the Chemistry syllabus
Biology70 marks, 3 hoursPractical exam 15 (3 hours); project 10; practical file 5As set out in the Biology syllabus
Mathematics80 marks, 3 hoursTwo projects of 10 marks each: format 1, content 4, findings 2, viva 3Subject teacher and Visiting Examiner mark 7 each (averaged); the Visiting Examiner alone conducts the viva
EnglishTwo papers: English Language and Literature in EnglishAs set out in the English syllabus—

Two more rules matter. The pass mark is 35% in each subject. And a pass grade in Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service (SUPW), assessed by the school, is needed for the pass certificate. If a science student misses the practical exam, the subject is treated as incomplete, so practical days are not optional.

The weight given to projects and files is also one of the main differences between ISC and CBSE. See our comparison of ISC vs CBSE for JEE and NEET.

From our tutors: the marks we see lost most often are not lost in February. They are lost in the practical file that was written up in one weekend, or in a project report missing the analysis and conclusion the syllabus lists. Just as common is a Maths project viva where the student cannot explain their own graph. Each of these can be fixed months ahead, and each costs far less time than winning the same marks back in the theory paper.

The year at a glance

CISCE says the academic year in its schools begins between mid-March and the first week of June, so check when your school starts Class 12. The school also sets most of the other dates in this table, so confirm them with its calendar.

April–May: set up Class 12

The aim is to keep up with every chapter as it is taught and to start the long-running work early.

  • Download the 2027 syllabus for each subject from cisce.org and put the unit marks on one page. In Physics, the Class 12 units carry Electrostatics and Current Electricity 14, Magnetism and EMI/AC 16, EM Waves 2, Optics 18, Dual Nature 7, Atoms and Nuclei 6 and Electronic Devices 7. In Maths, Calculus alone is 35 of 80. Our guides to the ISC Class 12 Physics syllabus 2027 and the ISC Class 12 Maths syllabus 2027 list every unit.
  • Ask the school for its calendar: unit tests, half-yearly exams, project deadlines, practical-file checks and pre-board dates.
  • Start three notebooks per subject: classwork, a formulas-and-definitions notebook, and an error log where every mistake from homework and tests is written down with its fix.
  • Choose project topics early. The Physics syllabus lets students choose a theoretical project, a working model or an investigatory project, with the teacher approving the draft. Maths needs two projects. Our guide to ISC Physics project ideas explains the marking criteria.
  • Close Class 11 gaps. Class 12 Physics leans on Class 11 vectors, calculus and mechanics. Class 12 Maths leans on functions, trigonometry and limits. Two short sessions a week on whichever the first test shows are weak is enough.

June: the summer break

Use the break to secure what has been taught, not to race ahead.

  • Revise each chapter taught so far and do the textbook exercises in full.
  • Do the background reading for each project and write a first draft of the aim, theory and method.
  • Read ahead lightly in the next two chapters of each subject.
  • Keep one English writing task a week. English is two papers, and it is compulsory for the pass certificate.
  • Take real rest days. Class 12 is long, and July is busy.

July–August: projects and practical files

These are heavy teaching months, and most of the practical and project work happens now.

  • Write up each practical within the week. In Physics, the practical file is worth 5 marks and is assessed on work kept "during the academic year".
  • Run project experiments or build models now, while there is time to repeat a failed attempt. The Physics syllabus asks for a technical report with a title, abstract, theory, experimental set-up, observations with data tables, graphs, analysis, conclusion and so on.
  • Practise the practical skills the syllabus names. In Physics, the two main groups are ray optics experiments (removing parallax between a needle and an image) and current electricity experiments (making connections strictly from the circuit diagram).
  • Keep two weekly checks: is every chapter taught this week fully done, and did the week include one timed section?

September–October: half-yearlies and specimen papers

The half-yearly as your first full test

Treat the half-yearly exam as a full rehearsal. After the results, sort every lost mark into one of five boxes: did not know, careless slip, misread the question, poor presentation or ran out of time. The count in each box tells you what October should fix.

Specimen papers

CISCE has released 2027 specimen papers for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. CISCE says the board paper will follow the specimen paper's format, although individual questions will differ. There are two points to note for 2027:

  • Mathematics has a new design. The paper has 20 compulsory questions in four sections set by marks per question (20, 14, 21 and 25 marks). The Section B / Section C choice used in 2026 has gone.
  • Physics has 20 questions: 14 one-mark parts, seven 2-mark, nine 3-mark and three 5-mark questions, with a simple scientific calculator allowed.

Attempt one specimen paper per subject in October under timed conditions, and save the rest for December and January. Our guide to ISC specimen papers 2027 explains how to use them.

November–December: finish, submit, first pre-board

Most schools aim to finish teaching by November. Start revision round 1 in each subject as soon as that subject is finished.

Revision round 1 (November to mid-December)

  • One chapter per subject per sitting: re-read, then rewrite the key derivations, definitions, reactions and diagrams from memory.
  • Past ISC questions on that chapter afterwards. CISCE publishes previous years' question papers on cisce.org.
  • Error-log review every Sunday, re-solving each entry without notes.

Projects and files

Schools set their own submission dates for projects and practical files, and many fall in November or December. Finish a week before the school deadline so there is time to fix what the teacher points out.

Pre-boards

Many Gurgaon schools hold a first pre-board in December and a second in January. The dates, and whether the marks count for anything at school, are set by the school, not by CISCE. Treat each pre-board as a full rehearsal. Start at 2:00 pm, as the 2026 papers did, use the first 15 minutes for reading only, and analyse the paper afterwards.

From our tutors: after a pre-board, we ask students to mark their own paper against the specimen paper's answer key before they see the teacher's marks. ISC papers reward full working and clear diagrams. Students who mark their own work start to notice the missing unit, the skipped step or the unlabelled diagram, and that changes how they write the next paper.

January: pre-boards and practicals

  • Two or three full papers a week in total, rotating subjects, each in one three-hour sitting with 15 minutes' reading time, and marked against the answer key.
  • Practical revision. Practical exams are arranged locally and your school will give the dates. Before them, re-do the core experiments, the graphs and the precautions, and re-read the practical file.
  • Protect attendance. ISC attendance is counted up to 31 January, and the minimum is 75% of working days in each year of the two-year course.
  • Weak chapters only between papers, chosen from the error log and pre-board analysis.
  • Sleep. Late nights in January show up as careless errors in February.

February–April: the exam weeks

Once the 2027 timetable is out, plan each gap as a short revision cycle. Using the 2026 gaps as an example (3 to 11 days between science papers), a cycle looks like this:

Days before the paperWhat to do
Gap of 7 days or more: first halfOne full timed paper in the subject; mark it; fix what it shows
3 days beforeWeak chapters from the error log; one section under time
2 days beforeDerivations, reactions and diagrams written from memory
1 day beforeFormula sheet and definitions only; no new material; early night
Exam dayAdmission card and stationery ready the night before; seated by 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm paper

With a short gap, such as the three days between Biology and Mathematics in 2026, keep only the last three rows. For a close pair like that, do a light daily recall of the later subject during the earlier subject's revision. After each paper, don't compare answers with friends. Put it away and turn to the next subject.

After the results: recheck, re-evaluation and improvement

The 2026 timetable document set out the steps after results, with firm time limits:

  • Recheck: apply online within four days of the results. A recheck confirms that every answer was marked, that the totals are right and that continuation sheets are intact.
  • Re-evaluation: apply within three days of the recheck results, only for subjects that were rechecked. The re-evaluated marks are final, "whether increased or decreased".
  • Improvement exam: held in the same year for students who sat the main exam. The theory paper is retaken, practical and project marks are carried forward, and the higher of the two marks counts. For 2026, CISCE allowed up to three subjects, and the exam ran from 15 June to 1 July. The ISC 2027 Regulations, published in February 2025, say up to two subjects. Check CISCE's 2027 circulars for the final number.

The weekly routine

This is a starting point our Home Tutors Team uses with many ISC Class 12 students. Adjust it to school hours and travel; consistency matters more than long hours.

School days

PeriodApril–OctoberNovember–January
After schoolRest, meal and a breakSame; keep it short
Session 160 minutes: today's Physics or Maths plus extra questions75 minutes: revision chapter in Physics or Maths
Session 245 minutes: Chemistry or Biology60 minutes: second subject, including one timed section
Session 320 minutes: practical write-up or project work30–45 minutes: past questions and the error log
TotalAbout 2 hoursAbout 2.5–3 hours

Weekends

  • Saturday (3 hours; more from November): one timed test in the subject that needs it most, then fix the mistakes it shows. From October, one full specimen or pre-board-style paper every other week.
  • Sunday (2–3 hours): project work, one English writing task and the weekly error-log review.
  • One half-day off every weekend, even in January.

If you are also preparing for JEE or NEET

Many PCM and PCB students in ISC schools are also preparing for an entrance exam, so the board plan has to fit around it. Neither JEE Main 2027 nor NEET (UG) 2027 dates had been announced by 29 September 2026. The 2026 pattern shows where the pressure points fall.

2026 eventDatesWhat it meant for ISC students
JEE (Main) Session 1Scheduled between 21 and 30 January 2026 (NTA bulletin)Same weeks as the second pre-board and practicals
ISC theory papers12 February–6 April 2026Physics was on 16 March, so PCM papers were over by mid-March
JEE (Main) Session 2Scheduled between 2 and 9 April 2026 (NTA bulletin)17 days after ISC Physics
NEET (UG)3 May 2026 exam cancelled; re-exam on 21 June 2026Fell in the same weeks as the ISC improvement exam (15 June–1 July)

Here is how to make the two plans work together:

  • Study each chapter once, to both standards. Learn it to the board standard (full derivations, diagrams, written reasoning), then add the entrance-exam layer (speed, harder problems, MCQ traps) in the same week.
  • Know the gaps. Logic gates are in the JEE Main and NEET Physics syllabi but not in ISC 2027 Physics. The p-block elements are in JEE Main and NEET Chemistry but not in ISC 2027 Chemistry. Linear Programming is in ISC Maths but not in JEE Main. Plan these separately.
  • Protect December and January for the board. Projects, files, pre-boards and practicals all come together then. Entrance mocks can be reduced for those weeks and brought back after the practicals.
  • For NEET, read NCERT alongside the ISC books, because NEET questions often follow NCERT wording.

Our guide on Class 12 board Physics and JEE shows how to combine the two in Physics. Our guide on how to score 95+ in ISC Physics covers the board side in depth.

The parents' role

  • Keep one family calendar. Unit tests, project and file deadlines, pre-boards, practical days and (once published) the CISCE timetable all come from different places.
  • Watch attendance. The 75% rule is counted up to 31 January. Plan family travel and coaching-class trips around it.
  • Ask about the project, not only the marks. "What did your experiment show this week?" helps more than "Is it done?"
  • Set up full papers at home from December. Three uninterrupted hours from 2:00 pm, with 15 minutes' reading first, a clear desk and a clock.
  • Watch for stress, and avoid comparisons. Poor sleep, or avoiding one subject, can be a sign of struggle. A calm conversation, and a counsellor if needed, helps more than extra hours.

A home tutor is most useful at three points in the year: in April–May to set up habits and projects, after the half-yearly to diagnose lost marks, and in December–January to mark full papers strictly. ISC Class 11–12 is offered in Gurgaon by schools including The Shri Ram School (Aravali and Moulsari), Scottish High International School, Shikshantar School, MatriKiran High School, Lord Jesus Public School (Sector 8) and Lt. Atul Katarya Memorial School. Ajay Vatsyayan Classes is not affiliated with any school named here. We have 12+ years of home tutoring across Gurgaon and Gurugram, and we teach at home or online.

Frequently asked questions

When will the ISC board exam 2027 timetable be released?

CISCE had not published it as of 29 September 2026. Its regulations say only that the timetable will be given to schools "well before" the exams. The 2026 timetable was dated 13 November 2025, so mid-November is a reasonable time to start checking cisce.org.

When will the ISC 2027 exams start?

The dates are not confirmed. In 2026, the ISC theory papers ran from 12 February to 6 April. Plan to be exam-ready by early February 2027 and adjust when the timetable is out.

When are ISC practical exams held?

CISCE's timetable lists the theory papers. Practical exams are arranged locally with CISCE's approval, so your school gives the dates. Many schools hold them around January.

Are the ISC 2027 specimen papers out?

Yes, for many subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology (released in July–August 2026). The 2027 Maths paper has a new design: 20 compulsory questions in four sections set by marks per question, with no Section B / Section C choice.

How many hours a day should an ISC Class 12 student study?

As a starting point, about 2 hours of self-study on school days from April to October and 2.5–3 hours from November to January, with more at weekends. Students preparing for JEE or NEET as well will need more, but consistent sessions matter more than long ones.

What is the pass mark in the ISC exam?

35% in each subject. A pass grade in SUPW and Community Service is also needed for the pass certificate.

Does the new Health and Physical Education internal assessment apply to ISC 2027?

No. CISCE's July 2026 circular introduces compulsory Health and Physical Education internal assessment from Examination Year 2028 onwards. It affects students now in Class 11, not the 2027 batch.

Can a home tutor help with ISC board preparation?

Yes. A tutor can set up the routine, keep projects and files on schedule, teach weak chapters one-to-one and mark practice papers strictly against the answer keys. Results depend on the student's effort and starting point, so we do not promise marks. Our Class 12 home tutors in Gurgaon teach at home or online, and male and female tutors are available.
