Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides IGCSE home tutors in Gurgaon for Cambridge IGCSE Maths, Additional Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Computer Science and Economics, with one-to-one lessons at your home or online. Every tutor is matched to your child's syllabus code, tier (Core or Extended) and exam series, and the first class is a free demo. We have taught in Gurgaon for 12+ years and have 500+ verified tutors, both male and female.
Most families look for an IGCSE tutor in Gurgaon for one of three reasons: their child has moved from CBSE or ICSE and finds the question style unfamiliar, the school has suggested the Core tier and the family wants Extended, or the student knows the content but loses marks on wording, method and practicals.
A good home tutor deals with all three. School classes in Grades 9 and 10 move at the pace of the whole group; a one-to-one tutor can slow down on the topic your child finds hard, speed through what they already know, and spend real time on past-paper technique. For IGCSE, much of the gap between a B and an A* is knowing exactly what a mark scheme rewards, which is best learned from someone reading your child's answers closely.
Ajay Vatsyayan Classes has worked with Gurgaon families for 12+ years and has taught 25,000+ students across CBSE, ICSE, ISC, Cambridge IGCSE and IB. Our network of 500+ verified tutors covers 50+ Gurgaon schools, and we arrange both home visits across Gurugram and online one-to-one classes for families who prefer them or who travel often.
The service was founded by Ajay Vatsyayan, a Maths and Physics educator who teaches IB DP Maths, CBSE, ICSE and ISC Class 11–12, and JEE and NEET preparation. Subject leads on our team include:
Beyond these subject leads, we match each student with a verified tutor who has taught the relevant IGCSE syllabus and who can travel to your sector, or teach online if that suits you better. If you would prefer a woman tutor at home, read about our female home and online tutors in Gurgaon.
Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an upper secondary qualification from Cambridge International designed for 14 to 16 year olds. In Gurgaon schools it is normally studied in Grades 9 and 10, which is the same stage as the CBSE or ICSE Class 10 board exams.
Key facts, taken from Cambridge's own syllabus documents and Cambridge's IGCSE overview page:
Some Gurgaon families will also come across the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. It is a separate qualification from a different exam board, with its own specifications, papers and grading. The subjects overlap with Cambridge IGCSE, but a tutor should prepare your child from that board's own specification and past papers. We can match tutors for either board; tell us which one your child's school uses when you book.
Many IGCSE subjects, including Mathematics and the three sciences, are tiered: students are entered for either Core or Extended, and the tier limits the grades they can receive.
Core content is the base course. Extended content includes all of the Core content plus additional, harder material (in the sciences this extra material is called the "Supplement"). Cambridge's guidance is that students who are expected to achieve a grade D or below should be entered for Core, and those expected to reach grade C or above should be entered for Extended.
| Subject (syllabus) | Core tier | Extended tier |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics 0580 (exams 2025–2027) | Paper 1 (non-calculator) + Paper 3 (calculator). Grades C to G. | Paper 2 (non-calculator) + Paper 4 (calculator). Grades A* to E. |
| Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610 (exams 2026–2028) | Paper 1 (multiple choice) + Paper 3 (theory) + one practical paper. Grades C to G. | Paper 2 (multiple choice) + Paper 4 (theory) + one practical paper. Grades A* to G. |
| Additional Mathematics 0606 (exams 2025–2027) | Not tiered. All candidates take Paper 1 (non-calculator) and Paper 2 (calculator). Grades A* to E. | |
Two practical points follow:
Cambridge IGCSEs are graded A* to G around the world, with A* the highest grade and G the lowest; below G the result is "ungraded". Cambridge also offers 9–1 graded versions of some subjects, but these carry separate syllabus codes (for example, Cambridge IGCSE (9–1) Mathematics is 0980) and, according to Cambridge's grading choice page, the choice between the two scales is available only to schools in one administrative zone (zone 3). If your child's school enters the standard codes listed on this page (0580, 0625, 0620 and so on), the results will be on the A*–G scale. If you are unsure, the code on the school's entry list settles it.
Our Gurgaon IGCSE tutors cover the subjects most commonly taken in Gurgaon IGCSE schools, each taught from the current Cambridge syllabus for your child's exam year. The table below summarises the written assessment for each, taken from the published syllabuses.
| Subject | Code | How it is assessed (current syllabus) |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 0580 | Two papers per tier; one non-calculator and one calculator paper. Core papers 1 h 30 min each; Extended papers 2 h each. |
| Additional Mathematics | 0606 | Paper 1 non-calculator and Paper 2 calculator, 2 h each, 80 marks each. |
| Physics | 0625 | Multiple choice (45 min), theory (1 h 15 min) and a practical test or alternative to practical. |
| Chemistry | 0620 | Same structure as Physics: multiple choice, theory and one practical paper. |
| Biology | 0610 | Same structure as Physics: multiple choice, theory and one practical paper. |
| English – First Language | 0500 | Paper 1 Reading (2 h) plus either Paper 2 Directed Writing and Composition (2 h) or a Coursework Portfolio. Optional, separately endorsed Speaking and Listening test. |
| English as a Second Language | 0510 / 0511 | 0511 (Count-in Speaking, 2024–2026): Reading and Writing (2 h), Listening (about 50 min) and Speaking, which counts towards the grade. In 0510 speaking is separately endorsed. |
| Computer Science | 0478 | Paper 1 Computer Systems and Paper 2 Algorithms, Programming and Logic, 1 h 45 min each; no calculators. |
| Economics | 0455 | Paper 1 multiple choice and Paper 2 structured questions (2027–2029 syllabus). |
The biggest change in recent years is in Mathematics 0580. From the 2025 exams, Cambridge introduced a dedicated non-calculator paper at each tier: Paper 1 (Core) and Paper 2 (Extended) are taken without a calculator, while Paper 3 (Core) and Paper 4 (Extended) need a scientific calculator. Each paper in a tier carries 50% of the marks. The syllabus also added topics such as surds, domain and range, and exact trigonometric values to Extended, and removed items such as linear programming and box-and-whisker plots.
For students used to reaching for a calculator, a home tutor's job is regular, timed, calculator-free practice in arithmetic, fractions, surds and algebra until it becomes automatic. Additional Mathematics 0606 is a separate, more demanding course (grades A* to E only) that suits strong students heading towards A Level Maths, IB Maths AA or JEE. Our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page explains how we teach Maths across boards.
All three sciences share one structure: a 40-question multiple-choice paper worth 30%, a theory paper worth 50%, and a practical paper worth 20%. The school chooses between Paper 5 (a practical test in the lab) and Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical, a written paper about experiments). Many students underestimate the practical paper, even though it is a fifth of the grade.
English First Language 0500 rewards close reading and controlled writing: students must analyse how writers create effects and adapt their register to the task. Computer Science 0478 tests algorithms, programming and logic in a paper of its own, so students should write and trace code every week. In Economics 0455, analysis and evaluation carry a large share of the marks, which is new to most students coming from CBSE social science.

Each Gurgaon school chooses which series it uses, so check the date with the school before you plan tuition backwards from it.
| Exam series | Who can use it | What it means for tuition |
|---|---|---|
| February/March | Schools in India only, for syllabuses that offer it (for example 0580, 0606, 0610, 0620, 0625, 0478, 0455, 0500) | Grade 10 teaching must be complete by about December; mocks and past papers run through January and February. |
| May/June | All schools | More revision time after the winter break; the risk is a slow start in Grade 10. |
| October/November | All schools | Often used for retakes or by schools with a different academic calendar. |
Not every syllabus offers the March series: the 2024–2026 syllabus for English as a Second Language 0511, for example, lists June and November only. Cambridge publishes a separate timetable for each administrative zone.
Most IGCSE marks are lost to exam technique, not missing knowledge. These are the problems we see most often with Gurgaon students, and what a good home tutor does about each one.
Cambridge lists the command words it uses and what each means. "State" means express in clear terms; "describe" means give the main points or features; "explain" means give reasons or show how things are related, with supporting evidence; "suggest" means apply your knowledge to a situation where more than one answer is valid. Students coming from rote-learning habits often write a description when the question says explain, and lose most of the marks.
The fix: the tutor highlights the command word in every past-paper question for the first few weeks, and the student says aloud what kind of answer it asks for before writing.
IGCSE mark schemes give marks for specific points, keywords and steps of working. A correct final answer with no working, or a vague answer that is "sort of right", often scores little.
The fix: after each practice question the student marks their own answer against the official mark scheme, then the tutor explains why each mark was or was not earned. After a few weeks the student starts writing for the examiner.
With a non-calculator paper now making up half of IGCSE Maths at each tier and all of Additional Maths Paper 1, slow or inaccurate mental arithmetic is costly.
The fix: ten minutes of calculator-free warm-up at the start of every Maths lesson, plus a short weekly timed non-calculator set.
Students with little lab experience struggle to describe a method, identify variables, draw a results table with units or suggest improvements.
The fix: the tutor teaches the experimental-skills section of the syllabus as a topic in its own right and works through past Paper 6 questions regularly, including drawing graphs by hand.
Students who join an IGCSE school in Grade 9 often know plenty of content but are thrown by unfamiliar question styles and English-heavy science answers.
The fix: a diagnostic in the first week to find the actual gaps, then a plan that fills missing IGCSE topics without re-teaching what the student already knows. Our Class 9 tuition in Gurgaon page covers this transition year in more detail.
If a student drifts to a Core entry because of weak Grade 9 results, their Maths and science grades are capped at C.
The fix: start tuition early in Grade 9 or at the start of Grade 10, not after the mocks.
Every family starts with a free demo class, and tuition then runs one-to-one at a fixed weekly time at your home or online. The process is simple:
For Grade 10 students, our Class 10 tuition in Gurgaon page explains how we organise the exam year across boards.
Several Gurgaon schools offer Cambridge IGCSE alongside IB, ICSE or CBSE, so the IGCSE students on your street may attend quite different schools. The schools below state on their own official websites that they offer Cambridge IGCSE:
Offerings change from year to year, so confirm the current programme with the school, or use the school search on the Cambridge International website. Ajay Vatsyayan Classes has no partnership or affiliation with any of these schools; we tutor IGCSE students independently of any school.
After IGCSE, Gurgaon students usually take one of three routes for Grades 11 and 12: Cambridge AS & A Levels, the IB Diploma Programme, or a switch to CBSE or ISC. The right choice depends on where your child wants to study and whether Indian entrance exams are part of the plan.
The natural next step within Cambridge. Students study a smaller number of subjects in depth, which suits those who already know their direction (for example Maths, Further Maths and Physics for engineering). Cambridge notes that students who achieve grades A* to C in IGCSE Mathematics are well prepared for AS & A Level Mathematics. We also provide an A Level tutor in Gurgaon for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics on the same one-to-one model.
A broader two-year programme with six subjects, the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Some Gurgaon schools offer both IGCSE and the IB, so students can move from one to the other without changing school. Students with Extended-tier IGCSE Maths, and ideally Additional Maths, find IB Maths Analysis and Approaches Higher Level much easier. Read more on our IB home tutors in Gurgaon page.
Families whose child wants to take JEE or NEET often consider moving to CBSE or ISC for Class 11, because those entrance exams are built around the NCERT Class 11–12 syllabus. Students who stay on A Levels or IB can still prepare for these exams, but they have to cover NCERT-level content and question styles separately, on top of their school work. Eligibility rules are set by the exam bodies and can change, so check the current information bulletin before deciding.
Our founder, Ajay Vatsyayan, teaches Class 11–12 Maths and Physics across CBSE, ISC and IB DP, as well as JEE and NEET, so we can advise on the practical trade-offs.

For a Grade 10 student taking six to eight IGCSEs, a sustainable plan is two to three tutored sessions a week plus 60–90 minutes of independent work on school days. Here is an example for a student who takes tuition in Maths and one science and wants to steady their other subjects:
| Day | Focus | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Maths tuition: new topic plus 10-minute non-calculator warm-up | 1 h 30 min |
| Tuesday | School homework; flashcards for science definitions | 1 h |
| Wednesday | Science tuition: theory topic plus one Alternative to Practical question | 1 h 30 min |
| Thursday | English or Economics practice: one timed written answer | 1 h |
| Friday | Light review: correct the week's mistakes in an error notebook | 45 min |
| Saturday | Maths tuition or a timed past paper section, self-marked with the mark scheme | 1 h 30 min |
| Sunday | Rest, plus a 30-minute plan for the week ahead | 30 min |
Adjust this to the exam series: for a March series, move to full past papers from about December; for June, from about February. In Grade 9, one or two sessions a week on foundations are usually enough. Keep an error notebook of every lost mark, and keep one day free; consistency over months matters more than long weekend sessions.
Cambridge designs IGCSE for 14 to 16 year olds, and Gurgaon schools normally teach it in Grades 9 and 10. Some, such as The Shri Ram School Moulsari, also offer Cambridge Lower Secondary in the years before, and students then move to A Levels, the IB Diploma, CBSE or ISC for Grades 11 and 12.
Ideally at the start of Grade 9, or as soon as a gap appears in school tests. Starting early gives time to secure an Extended entry in Maths and the sciences. Grade 10 students can still improve significantly, but there is less time for foundations once past-paper practice begins.
Yes. In IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and the sciences (0625, 0620, 0610), Core candidates can achieve grades C to G only. Extended candidates can achieve A* to E in Maths and A* to G in the sciences under the current syllabuses.
Both. In the 2025–2027 Mathematics 0580 syllabus, each tier has one non-calculator paper (Paper 1 Core, Paper 2 Extended) and one calculator paper (Paper 3 Core, Paper 4 Extended), each worth 50%. Additional Mathematics 0606 also has a non-calculator Paper 1 and a calculator Paper 2.
The standard Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses, such as 0580, 0625 and 0620, are graded A* to G. Cambridge's 9–1 versions use different syllabus codes and, according to Cambridge, the grading choice is only available to schools in one administrative zone. Check the code on your child's entry to be certain.

Yes. We have both male and female tutors, and you can state your preference when you book.
Yes, we can match a tutor for it. Edexcel International GCSE is a different qualification from Cambridge IGCSE, with its own specifications and papers, so the tutor must work from that board's own materials. Tell us the board and the specification when you enquire.
It depends on the subject, grade, tutor experience, frequency and mode. Our guide to fair home tuition charges in Gurgaon explains the typical ranges, and we confirm the exact fee with you before tuition starts. The demo class is free.
A tutor can teach the skills that coursework needs, such as planning, structure, register and proof-reading, using separate practice pieces. A tutor must not write or edit the coursework itself, because it has to be the student's own work, and we follow the school's rules on this.
