Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides a one-to-one JEE maths tutor in Gurgaon for Class 11, Class 12 and drop-year students preparing for JEE Main and JEE Advanced. A named maths tutor teaches at your home or online, starts with a diagnostic test, builds a chapter plan around your school calendar, and reviews every mock test with the student. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you commit.
We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. This page explains how JEE maths is examined, what changes between Class 11 and Class 12, how to fit JEE around CBSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE, and how to judge whether a JEE maths home tutor in Gurgaon is right for your child.
Our JEE maths tutoring runs in four stages: a diagnostic, a written plan, a weekly teaching cycle, and mock-test analysis. Each stage exists because JEE maths rewards two things that group classes find hard to give: fixing a student's specific weak links, and building speed without losing accuracy.
The first session is not a lecture. The tutor gives a short test of 15–20 questions drawn from the chapters the student has already studied at school, then goes through the answers with them. The aim is to find out why marks are lost, not just where. In our experience, most lost marks fall into four types:
Here is the kind of question we use. The roots of x² − 5x + k = 0 differ by 1. Find k. A student who expands and guesses may take several minutes. A student who knows that (α − β)² = (α + β)² − 4αβ writes 1 = 25 − 4k and gets k = 6 in one line. How a student approaches a question like this tells the tutor more than the final answer does.
After the diagnostic, the tutor writes a plan with the family. It lists the chapters in order, the target date for each, the school test and board exam dates, and the mock-test schedule. For a Class 11 student the plan usually runs to the end of the school year. For a Class 12 student it works back from the JEE Main session dates in the current NTA information bulletin.
A typical week for a student with three sessions looks like this. We adjust it to the student's school timetable and energy.
| Session | What happens | Student's own work before the next session |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 (90 min) | Teach the new concept from first principles, then 8–10 graded questions, from board level to JEE Main level | A 20-question exercise set, attempted without looking at solutions |
| Session 2 (90 min) | Check the exercise, reteach the mistakes, then JEE Main previous-year questions on the chapter | A timed set of 10 questions at roughly 2–3 minutes each |
| Session 3 (60–90 min) | Mixed revision of older chapters, plus JEE Advanced-style multi-concept problems for students aiming at Advanced | Maintain an error log: each mistake, its type and the correct idea |
From our tutors: the error log is the single habit that most separates students who improve from students who plateau. When a student writes "sign error, line 3, forgot that the square root gives ±", they stop making that mistake far faster than when the tutor simply corrects it.
From Class 12 (or earlier for strong students), the student sits full-length mock tests under exam conditions. The tutor then spends a full session on the paper, sorting every question into four groups:
This matters because JEE Main has negative marking in both of its question types (see the next section). Deciding what not to attempt is a skill, and a tutor who sees every mock paper can teach it student by student.

JEE Advanced is the second-stage exam for IIT admission, open only to the top JEE Main candidates. Both test Class 11–12 mathematics, but Advanced goes deeper and tests reasoning across chapters. The facts below come from the official JEE Main 2026 information bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in and the JEE (Advanced) 2026 information brochure on jeeadv.ac.in. Patterns can change each year, so always check the bulletin for your own exam year.
| JEE Main 2026, Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) | JEE (Advanced) 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Conducted by | National Testing Agency (NTA) | IITs (listed on jeeadv.ac.in) |
| Sessions / papers | Two sessions: January 2026 and April 2026. Overall merit uses NTA scores from all shifts of both sessions | Two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2), each three hours. Both are compulsory |
| Maths questions | 25 per paper: 20 multiple-choice questions (Section A) and 5 numerical-value questions (Section B) | A Mathematics section in each paper. Question types and marking are given in the instructions at the time of the exam |
| Maths marks | 100 out of a paper total of 300 (75 questions across Maths, Physics and Chemistry) | Maths marks = Maths part of Paper 1 + Maths part of Paper 2 |
| Marking | +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer, 0 if unanswered, in both Section A and Section B. Numerical answers are rounded off to the nearest integer | The brochure says negative marks may be given for incorrect answers in some questions |
| Duration | 3 hours for the whole paper | 3 hours per paper |
| Where maths decides ties | The first tie-breaker is the NTA score in Mathematics | After higher positive marks, the next tie-breaker is higher marks in Mathematics |
| Who can sit it | See eligibility in the bulletin | Top 2,50,000 successful candidates (all categories) in the JEE Main 2026 B.E./B.Tech paper; maximum two attempts in two consecutive years; other criteria in the brochure |
Two points in that table matter a lot for maths preparation. First, the numerical-value questions in JEE Main carry negative marking in the 2026 pattern, so guessing an integer is not free. Second, both exams use Mathematics as a tie-breaker, so a strong maths score can decide a rank between students on the same total.
The JEE Main 2026 maths syllabus lists 14 units, from sets, relations and functions to trigonometry. The JEE (Advanced) 2026 syllabus covers the same broad areas but names several ideas that the JEE Main 2026 syllabus does not. These include L'Hospital's rule, Rolle's theorem and Lagrange's mean value theorem, and the general solution of trigonometric equations. It also groups topics differently, so Advanced questions often join, for example, calculus with coordinate geometry in one problem.
The bigger difference is in question style. JEE Main rewards speed and accuracy on standard ideas. JEE Advanced rewards students who can take an unfamiliar question apart and see which two or three chapters it draws on. So our tutors teach every chapter to Main level first, then add Advanced-level problem sets only once the student is fast and accurate at Main level.
A note on weightage: the official documents give the syllabus and the pattern, not chapter-wise weightage. Any weightage table, including ours, is an analysis of past papers. It is useful for planning revision, but it is not a promise about the next paper.
The JEE syllabus is not officially split into Class 11 and Class 12, but schools teach it in two years, and that order shapes how a student prepares. The table below follows the NCERT-based order most CBSE schools in Gurgaon use. Your child's school may teach some chapters in a different term.
| Area | Usually taught in Class 11 | Usually taught in Class 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Algebra | Sets, relations and functions; complex numbers and quadratic equations; sequences and series; permutations and combinations; binomial theorem | Relations and functions (types, composition, inverse); matrices and determinants |
| Trigonometry | Trigonometric functions and identities | Inverse trigonometric functions |
| Coordinate geometry | Straight lines; circles; parabola, ellipse and hyperbola | Three-dimensional geometry (lines, skew lines, shortest distance) |
| Calculus | Limits and an introduction to derivatives | Continuity and differentiability; applications of derivatives; indefinite and definite integrals; area under curves; differential equations |
| Vectors | — | Vector algebra (scalar and vector products) |
| Statistics and probability | Statistics (dispersion); basic probability | Conditional probability, Bayes' theorem (random variables are in ISC Class 12; the CBSE 2026–27 syllabus does not list them) |
Class 11 carries the bigger share of the ideas that JEE builds on. Quadratics, sequences, trigonometry and conic sections turn up inside Class 12 questions in integration, 3D geometry and vectors. In our teaching, the students who struggle most in Class 12 are rarely weak in Class 12 chapters. They are usually weak in Class 11 algebra and trigonometry, which makes every Class 12 chapter slower.
From our tutors: if a Class 12 student is behind, we do not restart the whole syllabus. We reteach the three or four Class 11 skills the Class 12 chapters depend on, such as sign schemes for inequalities, trigonometric identities and completing the square. Then we move straight on to Class 12 work.
Students in Class 9 and 10 do not need JEE problems. They need fluent algebra, confident handling of fractions and surds, and the habit of showing their working. Our blog on when Class 9 students should start JEE maths preparation explains what a sensible foundation year looks like.
JEE maths can be combined with any school board, but the amount of extra work depends on how closely the board matches the JEE syllabus. For CBSE the overlap is large, and the main job is adding depth and speed. For IB and IGCSE students, some JEE topics and the JEE question style need to be taught separately.
CBSE Class 11–12 maths follows NCERT, and much of the JEE Main syllabus sits on the same chapters. The risk for CBSE students is not missing content. It is stopping at board level. A board question on integration asks for a method; a JEE question asks for the answer in about two minutes, often with a twist. Our tutors teach each chapter once, to board standard first, then extend it to JEE standard in the same week, so the student is never studying the same chapter twice for two different exams.
ISC mathematics covers most of the JEE algebra and calculus, with its own chapter order and a strong emphasis on written working, which is a real advantage in JEE Advanced. The ISC board exam timetable also needs planning around the JEE Main sessions. We build the Class 12 plan backwards from both sets of dates.
IB Maths Analysis & Approaches (especially HL) overlaps with parts of JEE, but not all of it, and the style is very different. IB students often need extra work on coordinate geometry of conics, parts of algebra and fast objective problem-solving. Time is the real constraint, because the Maths IA, Extended Essay and TOK all fall in the same two years. Ajay Vatsyayan teaches both IB DP Maths and JEE maths, so he can plan one timetable instead of two competing ones. See our IB home tutors in Gurgaon page for how IB tutoring works.
IGCSE students usually move to IB, A Levels or an Indian board after Grade 10. If JEE is the plan, the gap to close is usually trigonometry, coordinate geometry and algebraic manipulation at the speed JEE needs. Starting this in Grade 10 makes Class 11 much easier. Read more on our IGCSE home tutors in Gurgaon page.
For all boards, check the eligibility conditions in the current JEE Main bulletin and JEE Advanced brochure for your year of passing Class 12, rather than relying on second-hand advice.
| Board | Overlap with JEE maths | Main extra work for JEE |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE | High (NCERT-based) | Depth, speed, multi-concept questions |
| ISC | High | Speed and objective-question technique; planning around ISC exam dates |
| IB DP (Maths AA) | Partial | Topics taught lightly or not at all in the DP; JEE question style; time around IA and EE deadlines |
| Cambridge IGCSE | Foundation only | Class 11-level algebra, trigonometry and coordinate geometry before starting JEE work |
Every student is matched with a named maths tutor, and parents meet that tutor in the demo class before committing. These are the teachers who lead our JEE maths work:
Each profile page has more about the tutor and parent reviews. You can ask for a male or female tutor when you book; we match on subject and level first, then on your preference, location and timing. For maths support outside JEE, from Class 6 to Class 12 across all boards, see our main page on maths home tutors in Gurgaon.
We do not promise ranks, percentiles or selection. No honest tutor can. What we can promise is a clear plan, a tutor who knows the current syllabus and pattern, and honest feedback to parents on what is improving and what is not.
Our JEE maths home tutors travel to students across Gurgaon, and every student can switch to online one-to-one sessions during exam weeks, travel or heavy school terms. If you are searching for "JEE maths tuition near me" or "JEE maths tutor near me" from any of the areas below, a tutor can usually come to your home.
Travel time matters for JEE students, who often have long school days. A tutor who comes to you saves a student the commute to an institute, time that can go into practice instead. For costs, which depend on class, mode and number of sessions a week, read our guide to home tuition charges in Gurgaon. We confirm the fee before you start.
We teach students from many Gurgaon schools across all four boards. A few examples, with the boards shown in official records:
Ajay Vatsyayan Classes is not affiliated with these schools. Because our tutors work from each board's syllabus and the student's own school calendar, they can support students from any school in Gurgaon.

An institute suits students who are already strong, work well in a competitive group and can keep up with a fixed syllabus pace. Many Gurgaon families use both: an institute for structure and test series, and a home tutor for maths, where gaps compound fastest.
| One-to-one JEE maths tutor | IIT JEE maths coaching institute in Gurgaon | |
|---|---|---|
| Pace | Set by the student; slows down on weak chapters and speeds up on strong ones | Set by the batch; the same for everyone |
| Doubt clearing | Immediate, in every session | Separate doubt sessions or counters; quieter students often do not ask |
| Mock analysis | Question-by-question review with the tutor | Score reports and ranks; personal review depends on the student asking |
| Board alignment | Plan built around the student's own board and school dates | Usually a fixed JEE plan, whatever the board |
| Travel | None for home tuition; online sessions also possible | Commute to the centre, often several evenings a week |
| Peer benchmark | Comes from external mock tests | Built in, through batch ranks |
The honest answer is that neither is better for every student. The question is what your child needs now. If a student is losing marks through the same errors test after test, or has stopped asking questions in class, one-to-one help usually makes the biggest difference. Our blog post Is one-to-one JEE maths coaching better than coaching institutes? goes into this in more detail. For the wider JEE picture across Physics, Chemistry and Maths, see our JEE Main and Advanced coaching in Gurgaon page.
Home sessions suit students who focus better face to face and long problem-solving sessions on paper. Online one-to-one suits students in distant sectors, short targeted sessions such as mock reviews, and exam weeks. Many of our JEE students use both. Our post on online vs offline JEE maths classes compares them.
Our tutors have written a series of JEE maths guides, all reviewed by Ajay Vatsyayan. Start at the JEE Maths guides hub, or go straight to the topic you need.
The best time is the start of Class 11, before gaps in algebra and trigonometry build up. Class 9 and 10 students benefit from foundation work rather than JEE problems. A student starting in Class 12 can still improve a lot, but the plan has to be selective about chapters and revision time.
Both. Our tutors visit homes across Gurgaon, including DLF, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, New Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway, and also teach online one-to-one. Many students use home sessions for regular teaching and online sessions for mock reviews and exam weeks.
Most of our Class 11 and 12 JEE students take two or three sessions a week of 60–90 minutes, plus assigned practice between sessions. The right number depends on the student's starting level, board workload and whether they also attend an institute. The tutor recommends a number after the diagnostic.
In the JEE Main 2026 pattern, Paper 1 had 25 maths questions (20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical-value), worth 100 marks, with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong answer in both sections. Check the NTA information bulletin for your exam year on jeemain.nta.nic.in, because patterns can change.
Yes, and many Gurgaon students do. The tutor then works around the institute's syllabus, fixing gaps from the week's classes and reviewing the institute's test papers, rather than teaching a second parallel course.
Yes, with a plan that starts early. IB Maths AA HL covers part of the JEE syllabus, but not all of it, and not in the JEE question style. IGCSE students need Class 11-level algebra and trigonometry first. Check the eligibility conditions in the current JEE bulletin and brochure as well.
