CISCE has published the ISC specimen papers for 2027 on cisce.org, each with an answer key, including the ISC Class 12 Physics specimen paper 2027, Mathematics and Chemistry Paper 1. A specimen paper shows the format of the board paper, not its questions. Use it as a test: sit it in one timed three-hour attempt after the 15-minute reading time, mark it strictly against CISCE's answer key, log every lost mark, and keep a clean copy for the final weeks before your first theory paper.
This guide is part of our ISC home tutors in Gurgaon for Class 11 and 12 series. It covers where CISCE publishes the 2027 specimen papers, what the Physics, Maths and Chemistry papers show about paper design, how to do a timed attempt and self-mark it, a last-60-days plan, and five practice questions written by our Home Tutors Team in ISC style, with worked solutions.
An ISC specimen question paper shows the design of the board paper: how many questions there are, how the sections are organised, how many marks each question carries and where the internal choices are. It does not tell you which questions will be set.
CISCE says this on the papers themselves. The 2027 Physics and Chemistry specimen papers carry a note that the specimen paper "provides a realistic format of the Board Examination Question Paper and should be used as a practice tool", that the board questions "can be set from any part of the syllabus", and that "the format of the Board Examination Question Paper will remain the same as that of the Specimen Question Paper". The Mathematics specimen paper words it a little differently: the board paper "may not necessarily replicate the Specimen Question Paper as individual questions may vary". All three notes add that "the weightage allocated to various topics, as given in the syllabus, will be strictly adhered to".
So use the specimen papers for three things: learning the format until nothing surprises you, practising a three-hour paper with reading time, and seeing from the answer key what CISCE expects for each mark. The unit-wise marks in the ISC 2027 syllabus tell you how much of each paper each unit fills; we set them out below. For the full chapter lists, see our guides to the ISC Class 12 Physics syllabus 2027 and the ISC Class 12 Maths syllabus 2027.
Download specimen papers only from CISCE. When we checked on 29 September 2026, the page Specimen Question Papers ISC Class XII - 2027 on cisce.org listed a PDF for each subject, labelled "SQP & AK" (specimen question paper and answer key in one file). You can also reach it from cisce.org through Examination, then ISC Examination, then Specimen Question Papers, and the "ISC - 2027" tile under Class XII.
The subjects listed for 2027 were:
Not every ISC subject has a specimen paper each year. If yours is missing, use the latest one CISCE has published for it and check it against the 2027 syllabus.
All three theory papers are three hours long with an additional fifteen minutes of reading time, during which you must not write. Physics and Chemistry are 70 marks each; Mathematics is 80 marks. Every question is compulsory, with internal choices in some questions. The table is taken from the instructions and section headings of each 2027 specimen paper.
| Section | Physics (861) Paper 1: 70 marks, 20 questions | Mathematics (860): 80 marks, 20 questions | Chemistry (862) Paper 1: 70 marks, 21 questions |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 14 marks: one question with fourteen 1-mark parts (seven multiple choice, including assertion–reason; seven short answers) | 20 marks: one question with twenty 1-mark parts (seventeen multiple choice, including assertion–reason; three short answers) | 14 marks: one question with fill-in-the-blanks (4), multiple choice including assertion–reason (7) and a short passage with three questions (3) |
| B | 14 marks: 7 questions of 2 marks | 14 marks: 7 questions of 2 marks | 20 marks: 10 questions of 2 marks |
| C | 27 marks: 9 questions of 3 marks | 21 marks: 7 questions of 3 marks | 21 marks: 7 questions of 3 marks |
| D | 15 marks: 3 questions of 5 marks | 25 marks: 5 questions of 5 marks | 15 marks: 3 questions of 5 marks |
| Internal choice | Two questions each in Sections B, C and D | Three questions each in Sections B, C and D | Two questions each in Sections B, C and D |
| Other instructions | List of useful constants at the end; a simple scientific calculator without programmable memory may be used | Rough work on the same page as the answer; mathematical tables and graph paper provided | Data (gas constant, faraday, Avogadro's number) given; balanced equations and all essential working must be shown |
One feature runs through all three papers: next to most questions, CISCE prints the skill being tested, such as Recall, Understand, Apply, Analyse or Evaluate. A question tagged Analyse or Evaluate usually needs a reason in words, not just a number.
The ISC Class 12 Physics specimen paper 2027 is a 70-mark, three-hour theory paper of 20 questions. It follows the unit weightage in CISCE's 2027 Physics syllabus and mixes calculation with reasoning questions built around figures, experiments and short conversations.
| Units in the ISC 2027 Physics syllabus (Class XII) | Marks in Paper 1 |
|---|---|
| Electrostatics; Current Electricity | 14 |
| Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism; Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents | 16 |
| Electromagnetic Waves | 2 |
| Optics | 18 |
| Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter | 7 |
| Atoms and Nuclei | 6 |
| Electronic Devices | 7 |
| Total | 70 |
Optics alone carries 18 of the 70 marks, the two electricity and magnetism pairs carry 30 between them, and the last three units add 20. The rest of the subject comes from Paper 2 (practical, 15 marks) and the project and practical file (15 marks).
Our guide to scoring 95+ in ISC Physics goes further into answer writing for these question types.
The ISC Mathematics specimen paper 2027 is an 80-mark, three-hour paper of 20 questions in four sections, and all questions are compulsory. Vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability all appear in the same compulsory paper as calculus and algebra.
| Unit (ISC 2027 Mathematics syllabus, Class XII) | Marks in Paper I |
|---|---|
| Relations and Functions | 10 |
| Algebra (matrices and determinants) | 10 |
| Calculus | 35 |
| Vector Algebra | 5 |
| Three-Dimensional Geometry | 6 |
| Linear Programming | 5 |
| Probability | 9 |
| Total | 80 |
Calculus is 35 of the 80 marks, so it is the unit to practise most under time. The other 20 marks in Maths come from Paper II, project work (two projects of 10 marks each, assessed by the subject teacher and a Visiting Examiner).
What the 2027 paper shows:
The ISC Chemistry Paper 1 specimen paper for 2027 is a 70-mark, three-hour theory paper of 21 questions. Its Section B is larger than in Physics (ten questions of 2 marks), and its Section A includes a short reading passage.
| Area (ISC 2027 Chemistry syllabus, Class XII) | Units | Marks in Paper 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Chemistry | Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics | 25 |
| Inorganic Chemistry | d- and f-Block Elements, Coordination Compounds | 14 |
| Organic Chemistry | Haloalkanes and Haloarenes; Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers; Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids; Organic Compounds containing Nitrogen; Biomolecules | 31 |
| Total | 70 | |
What the 2027 paper shows:
CISCE publishes one specimen paper per subject for a session, which is not enough for a 60-day plan. Fill the plan with other official material, and keep the 2027 specimen paper for a late, clean attempt.
| Source (all on cisce.org, under Examination → ISC) | How to use it |
|---|---|
| 2027 specimen paper and answer key | Read once untimed for layout; keep one clean copy for a full timed attempt late in the plan. |
| Previous Years Question Papers | Real board papers. Chapter by chapter during the year; full timed papers in the final weeks, after a syllabus check. |
| ISC Item Bank | Extra questions for topic practice. |
| Analysis of Pupil Performance | CISCE's reports on how candidates answered past papers; read the Physics, Chemistry and Maths reports for common errors. |
School pre-boards also count as full papers if they follow the 2027 format. The real limit is the time to mark and analyse each paper: five papers analysed well teach more than fifteen checked only for a total.
A timed attempt only helps if it copies exam conditions: fifteen minutes of reading without writing, then three hours in one sitting, with no help and no breaks.
After each paper, note marks by section, time spent per section, and questions left or rushed. Over several papers these show whether the problem is knowledge, speed or planning.
From our tutors: in ISC Physics and Chemistry, the questions students most often under-answer are the ones tagged Analyse or Evaluate. They write "correct" or "dark fringe" and move on. When we mark those answers, the missing piece is nearly always the one-line reason: the path difference compared with the wavelength, or which quantity actually changed. We ask students to underline the command word (state, explain, justify, correct) during the reading time and to write at least one "because" sentence for every Evaluate question.
Mark every paper against CISCE's answer key on the same day or the next, strictly. The aim is an honest picture of where marks are lost, not a flattering total.
The 2027 answer keys give a model answer and the marks for each question or part, but they do not split every answer into half-mark steps. The Physics key states "Equivalent answers are acceptable", so a different correct method or wording is fine. Because there is no step-by-step split, use stricter rules of your own:
Then keep an error log: one line per lost mark, with the paper and question, the unit, the error type (concept, method, calculation, reading, presentation or time) and a one-line fix, for example "Fringe width is proportional to D/d: say which quantity changed". Re-attempt each entry after about a week. A presentation pile (units, unbalanced equations, missing reasons) is the quickest to fix; a concept pile in one unit means going back to the chapter before the next paper. Once a fortnight, ask a teacher or tutor to mark one paper independently and compare totals.

They are not CISCE questions and are not taken from any specimen or board paper. Each shows the marks and a skill tag in the way CISCE's papers do, and every numerical answer has been checked by calculation. Try each one timed (about 2 to 2.5 minutes a mark) before reading the solution.
Practice question 1 (Physics, Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter) [2] (Apply)
Light of wavelength 400 nm falls on a metal surface of work function 2.0 eV. Calculate (i) the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted photoelectrons in eV and (ii) the stopping potential. (Take h = 6.6 × 10−34 J s, c = 3 × 108 m s−1, 1 eV = 1.6 × 10−19 J.)
Solution. Photon energy E = hc/λ = (6.6 × 10−34 × 3 × 108) / (400 × 10−9) = 4.95 × 10−19 J = 4.95 × 10−19 / 1.6 × 10−19 eV ≈ 3.09 eV.
(i) Kmax = E − φ = 3.09 − 2.0 ≈ 1.09 eV.
(ii) eV0 = Kmax, so the stopping potential V0 ≈ 1.09 V.
Where marks go: the conversion to eV and the unit of V0. Writing "1.09 eV" for the stopping potential is a common slip.
Practice question 2 (Physics, Optics) [3] (Apply)
A thin convex lens of focal length 20 cm is placed in contact with a thin concave lens of focal length 30 cm. (i) Find the power and focal length of the combination. (ii) An object is placed 90 cm in front of the combination. Find the position of the image and its magnification. (iii) State the nature of the image.
Solution. (i) Using the Cartesian sign convention, f1 = +20 cm and f2 = −30 cm. 1/F = 1/20 − 1/30 = 1/60, so F = +60 cm (converging). Power P = 100/F (F in cm) = 100/60 ≈ +1.67 D.
(ii) u = −90 cm. From 1/v − 1/u = 1/F: 1/v = 1/60 + 1/(−90) = 1/180, so v = +180 cm, that is, 180 cm on the other side of the lens. Magnification m = v/u = 180/(−90) = −2.
(iii) The image is real, inverted and twice the size of the object.
Where marks go: signs. Using f2 = +30 cm gives a completely different answer.
Practice question 3 (Mathematics, Calculus: application of integrals) [3] (Apply)
Sketch the region bounded by the curve y = x2 and the line y = 2x. Using integration, find its area.
Solution. Points of intersection: x2 = 2x gives x(x − 2) = 0, so x = 0 and x = 2 (points (0, 0) and (2, 4)). For 0 ≤ x ≤ 2 the line lies above the parabola (at x = 1, 2x = 2 > 1 = x2).
Area = ∫02 (2x − x2) dx = [x2 − x3/3]02 = 4 − 8/3 = 4/3 square units.
Where marks go: the sketch with the region shaded, the limits, and the unit "square units". Subtracting in the wrong order gives −4/3; an area can never be negative.
Practice question 4 (Mathematics, Probability) [3] (Analyse)
Bag I contains 3 red and 2 black balls. Bag II contains 2 red and 4 black balls. A fair coin is tossed: if it shows heads, a ball is drawn from Bag I; otherwise from Bag II. The ball drawn is red. Find the probability that it came from Bag I.
Solution. Let E1, E2 be the events "Bag I chosen" and "Bag II chosen", and R the event "red ball drawn". P(E1) = P(E2) = 1/2; P(R | E1) = 3/5; P(R | E2) = 2/6 = 1/3.
By the theorem of total probability, P(R) = (1/2)(3/5) + (1/2)(1/3) = 3/10 + 1/6 = 7/15.
By Bayes' theorem, P(E1 | R) = (3/10) / (7/15) = 9/14.
Where marks go: defining the events in words, then the total probability line, then Bayes. Writing only the final fraction loses most of the marks.
Practice question 5 (Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics) [2] (Apply)
A first-order reaction has a half-life of 30 minutes. Calculate the time taken for 90% of the reaction to be completed.
Solution. For a first-order reaction, k = 0.693 / t1/2 = 0.693 / 30 = 0.0231 min−1.
For 90% completion, [A]0/[A] = 100/10 = 10, so t = (2.303 / k) log 10 = 2.303 / 0.0231 ≈ 99.7 minutes (about 100 minutes).
Where marks go: the unit of k and the ratio [A]0/[A] = 10 (not 0.9 or 9). A quick check: 90% completion lies between three half-lives (87.5% done) and four (93.75% done), that is, between 90 and 120 minutes.
Count back 60 days from your first ISC theory paper, not from the start of the exam season. When we checked cisce.org on 29 September 2026, CISCE had not yet published the ISC 2027 timetable, so use the official timetable once it is out. If your first theory paper falls in mid-February, day 60 is in mid-December.
Before day 60, finish the Class 12 syllabus in each subject, read each 2027 specimen paper once untimed, and do chapter-wise questions so that full papers test recall rather than first learning. Our ISC board exam 2027 preparation plan covers the months before this window.
| Phase | Days before first paper | Full timed papers | Other work |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Diagnose | 60 to 46 | One full paper per main subject, preferably a recent previous year's board paper | Mark strictly; start the error log; list the three weakest units per subject by weightage and revise them |
| 2. Fix and build | 45 to 21 | Two full papers a week in Physics, Chemistry and Maths; one a week in other subjects | Unit-wise work on logged weak areas; first re-attempts; school pre-boards count as full papers |
| 3. Simulate | 20 to 8 | A full paper roughly every other day at the real exam time; the clean 2027 specimen paper for each subject is used here | Second re-attempts; formula and reaction revision; practise your section order and reading-time routine |
| 4. Consolidate | 7 to 1 | At most one light paper, or selected sections, for the first subject | Error log review, derivations and definitions, sleep and routine; no new books or question banks |
On a paper day, allow the reading time and three hours at the exam time, then about an hour to mark and log. On other days, work in two or three focused blocks on logged weak units. Two full papers in one day is the practical maximum, and one is better.
Students in Gurugram who still have school, practical examinations and pre-boards in these weeks can move paper days to weekends and holidays. The phases still apply; only the density changes.
From our tutors: the 15-minute reading time is where many ISC students lose the most without noticing. They either skim the whole paper in two minutes and sit waiting, or get stuck reading one long question. We practise a fixed routine: five minutes to read Section A and choose internal choices, five to read Sections C and D and decide an order, and five to reread the first question to be answered. After a few timed papers with this routine, the first half-hour of the exam usually becomes the calmest part.

Yes. When we checked on 29 September 2026, cisce.org had a "Specimen Question Papers ISC Class XII - 2027" page with specimen papers and answer keys for subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Elective English, Modern English, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
On cisce.org, under Examination, ISC Examination, Specimen Question Papers, then the "ISC - 2027" tile for Class XII. It is listed as "PHYSICS PAPER 1 (Theory) - SQP & AK", a single PDF with the question paper and the answer key.
Do not expect them to. CISCE says board questions can be set from any part of the syllabus. The specimen paper shows the format and, with the syllabus, the unit weightage.
The 2027 Physics and Chemistry specimen papers on the CISCE page are Paper 1 (Theory). Practical work, project work and the practical file are set out in the ISC 2027 syllabus for each subject.
They show a model answer and the marks for each question or part, not a half-mark split for every step. When self-marking, be stricter than the key: formula, substitution, final value and unit.
The 2027 Physics specimen paper says a simple scientific calculator without a programmable memory may be used. Check the instructions on each subject's paper.
