Class 9 Home Tuition in Gurgaon – One-to-One CBSE, ICSE & IGCSE Tutors, at Home or Online

By the Ajay Vatsyayan Classes Home Tutors Team · Reviewed by Ajay Vatsyayan (Founder; B.Tech; IB and Cambridge IGCSE experienced). Last reviewed: 30 September 2026.

Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides one-to-one Class 9 home tuition in Gurgaon for CBSE, ICSE and Cambridge IGCSE students. A tutor from our Home Tutors Team teaches your child at home or in a live online class, one student per session, following the school's books, tests and calendar. Class 9 is the first half of the two-year board course, so we use it to fix gaps early and build exam habits. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you decide.

We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. This page explains what has changed in CBSE Class 9 for 2026–27, how ICSE and IGCSE Class 9 work, and how our Class 9 home tuition in Gurgaon is organised.

How one-to-one Class 9 home tuition works

The diagnostic

The first session is a short test on chapters already covered at school and on the Class 8 topics Class 9 assumes. Most lost marks in Class 9 come from four sources:

  • Abstraction. Proofs, irrational numbers and identities ask "why", not only "how much".
  • Unfinished Class 8 work. Weak expansion of brackets, factorisation or unit conversion.
  • Volume. More subjects, longer chapters and, for CBSE students this year, a third language.
  • Exam writing. Class 9 papers follow the board pattern, with case-based questions and marks for steps.

The weekly cycle

Most students have two or three sessions a week. The tutor teaches the chapter the school is on and moves from graded questions to board-style ones. Before the next session, the student does a written practice set or a timed chapter test and updates an error log. Once a month the tutor updates parents, including on internal-assessment deadlines.

From our tutors: the Class 9 student who struggles is often not weak at maths or science. They are still studying the way that worked in Class 8: reading the chapter the night before a test. Class 9 chapters build on each other across the year, so we move students to short, regular self-tests from the first month. That one habit changes how Class 10 feels.

CBSE Class 9 in 2026–27: what has changed

CBSE Class 9 has three big changes in 2026–27: new NCERT textbooks, one common Maths and Science course with optional Advanced papers, and a compulsory third language. Sources: CBSE's Secondary Curriculum 2026–27 (Part 1) and the Class IX subject syllabuses on cbseacademic.nic.in, and from NCERT's textbook page, checked on 30 September 2026. Check the latest CBSE circulars too.

A note on Maths. CBSE's Class 9 Maths syllabus has six units: Number System 7 marks, Algebra 20, Coordinate Geometry 4, Geometry 25, Mensuration 14, and Statistics and Probability 10 (80 in all). The syllabus includes chapters that are not in Ganita Manjari Part I, such as Euclid's geometry, lines and angles, triangle congruence, quadrilaterals, linear equations in two variables, surface area and volume, and statistics. No Part II was listed on NCERT's site when we checked, so our tutors ask each school what it is using for those chapters.

Science is examined in four units: World of Living 27 marks, Matter 25, Motion, Force, Work and Sound 23, and Earth as a System 5.

One common Maths and Science course, plus optional Advanced

CBSE has dropped Maths Standard and Basic for students entering Class 9 from 2026–27. Every Class 9 student studies one common Mathematics and Science course, and may add Mathematics Advanced, Science Advanced, both or neither.

Common paper (all students)Advanced paper (optional)
Class 9 (2026–27)School's annual exam: 80 marks, 3 hours, plus 20 marks internal assessmentExtra content, examined by the school

ResultCounts in the total50% or more earns a marksheet note that the Advanced Level has been cleared. The marks are not added to the total

CBSE's Class 9 Maths Advanced material covers sets, logarithms, relations and functions, coordinate geometry, combinatorics and further progressions. Science Advanced goes deeper into motion, energy, the atom, chemical bonding and biotechnology.

Three languages

From 2026–27, a third language (R3) is compulsory in Class 9, and at least two of the three languages must be native to India. This year's Class 9 uses a Class VI-level R3 textbook plus one local literary text. R3 is assessed only by the school, with no board exam, but must be passed for the Class 10 pass certificate.

How Class 9 is assessed

There is no board exam in Class 9. In each main subject, the school sets an annual exam of 80 marks and awards 20 marks for internal assessment. The pass mark is 33%. Grades run from A1 (91–100) to D (33–40).

ICSE Class 9: the first year of the 2028 course

A student in ICSE Class 9 in 2026–27 will take the ICSE exam in 2028, so the CISCE documents for the 2028 exam apply. The facts below come from CISCE's ICSE Regulations for 2028 and the 2028 Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology syllabuses on cisce.org (dated January 2026), checked on 30 September 2026.

  • Registration and subjects. Students are registered for ICSE in Class 9 and cannot take a subject in Class 10 that they did not register for and study in Class 9.
  • Subjects. English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography are compulsory. Students add two or three Group II subjects (CISCE expects most to take Mathematics and Science) and one or two Group III subjects, such as Computer Applications.
  • Class 9 exam and promotion. The school runs the Class 9 final exam. To be promoted, a student needs at least 33% in five subjects, including English, on the cumulative average, and 75% attendance.
  • Mathematics. One 3-hour, 80-mark paper plus 20 marks internal assessment. Class 9 covers irrational numbers, compound interest, algebra (including indices and logarithms), geometry theorems, statistics, mensuration, trigonometry and coordinate geometry.
  • Science. Three separate papers (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), each 2 hours and 80 marks, plus 20 marks of practical work. Class 9 Physics covers measurement, motion, laws of motion, fluids, heat, light, sound, and electricity and magnetism. Chemistry covers the language of chemistry, the atom, the periodic table, hydrogen and gas laws. Biology covers the cell, plants, the animal kingdom, human anatomy, and health.

Compared with CBSE, ICSE Class 9 has more subjects and more written work, and its Class 9 Maths includes topics such as logarithms, compound interest and trigonometry that are not in CBSE's common Class 9 Maths syllabus. See our ICSE maths home tutor in Gurgaon page for Class 10 maths support.

Cambridge IGCSE in Grade 9

In Gurgaon's Cambridge schools, the IGCSE course usually begins in Grade 9 (Year 10 in British numbering) and ends with exams at the end of Grade 10. Cambridge describes IGCSE as a qualification for 14 to 16 year olds (cambridgeinternational.org, checked on 30 September 2026).

  • Which syllabus. A student starting in 2026–27 will usually sit exams in 2028. Cambridge's IGCSE Mathematics 0580 syllabus for 2028–2030 is already published. Exams run in June and November, with a March series in India.
  • Core or Extended. Maths is tiered. Core (Papers 1 and 3) leads to grades C to G; Extended (Papers 2 and 4) leads to grades A* to E, and students aiming for A* to C should study it. One paper in each tier is non-calculator.

The Grade 9 decision that matters most is the tier. Our tutors help students build Extended-level algebra early, so the tier can be decided on evidence in Grade 10. See our IGCSE home tutors in Gurgaon page, or IB home tutors in Gurgaon for MYP students.

Why Class 9 is the base for Class 10 boards

CBSE says Classes 9 and 10 "constitute a composite course", and students should take in Class 9 only the subjects they intend to continue in Class 10. ICSE works the same way through Class 9 registration. So Class 9 is the first half of the board course, not a warm-up year.

Class 9 foundationWhy it matters in Class 10
Algebraic identities, factorisation, linear polynomials and equationsAlmost every algebra question in Class 10 uses them; weak factorisation is the most common hidden gap we see
Geometry proofs (congruence, circles)Class 10 geometry assumes the student can write a reasoned proof
Atomic structure, formulae and balanced equationsThe language of all later chemistry
Motion, force, work and energyNumerical physics: formula, substitution with units, answer

CBSE's 2027–28 Class 10 syllabus was not yet published when we checked, so we build these skills rather than guess at chapters. Our Class 10 home tutors in Gurgaon page and our board exam preparation for Class 9 and 10 page explain what comes next.

From our tutors: in Class 9 geometry, many students can see why a result is true but cannot write it down. We teach proofs as a fixed layout: given, to prove, construction if needed, then numbered steps, each with a reason in brackets. Within weeks, students stop losing marks for "correct idea, incomplete proof", a habit that carries into Class 10.

Class 9 subjects we teach, with worked examples

Our Class 9 home tutors in Gurgaon teach every main subject for CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE. Families searching for "maths tuition near me for Class 9" or a "science teacher near me for Class 9" usually start with those two subjects. Examples of what we practise:

Mathematics

See our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page for how we teach maths across classes.

Worked example 1 (coordinates, CBSE and ICSE). Find the distance between A(−2, 3) and B(4, −5), and the midpoint of AB.

  • Distance = √[(4 − (−2))² + (−5 − 3)²] = √(6² + 8²) = √(36 + 64) = √100 = 10 units.
  • Midpoint = ((−2 + 4)/2, (3 + (−5))/2) = (1, −1).

The usual slip is writing 4 − 2 instead of 4 − (−2), so we insist on brackets.

Worked example 2 (ICSE compound interest). Find the compound interest on ₹20,000 for 2 years at 10% per annum, compounded annually, and how much it exceeds the simple interest.

  • Amount = 20,000 × 1.1 × 1.1 = ₹24,200, so CI = ₹4,200.
  • Simple interest = 20,000 × 10 × 2 ÷ 100 = ₹4,000. The difference is ₹200: interest earned on the first year's interest.

Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)

Concepts first, then labelled diagrams, numericals with units and practical work. See our physics tuition in Gurgaon, chemistry tuition in Gurgaon and biology tuition in Gurgaon pages.

Worked example 3 (motion and force). A car of mass 1,200 kg speeds up uniformly from 10 m/s to 25 m/s in 5 s. Find its acceleration, the distance covered and the net force.

  • a = (v − u) ÷ t = (25 − 10) ÷ 5 = 3 m/s².
  • s = ut + ½at² = 10 × 5 + ½ × 3 × 25 = 50 + 37.5 = 87.5 m. Check with v² = u² + 2as: (625 − 100) ÷ 6 = 87.5 m.
  • F = ma = 1,200 × 3 = 3,600 N.

English, Social Science and languages

English: reading, grammar in context and writing formats with word limits. Social Science: timelines, maps and answers that stay on the question. We also teach Hindi, Sanskrit and French, including a new third language. See our language tuition in Gurgaon page.

JEE and NEET foundation: a realistic view

A Class 9 student does not need a separate JEE or NEET course, but the first ideas of those syllabuses appear now. The JEE (Main) 2026 physics syllabus opens with units and measurements, kinematics, laws of motion, and work, energy and power, and its maths syllabus opens with sets, relations and functions. The NEET (UG) 2026 syllabus, published by the National Medical Commission, starts physics the same way and includes atomic structure, the cell and biodiversity. Each is introduced in Class 9, in the common syllabus or CBSE's Advanced papers.

So our foundation work is modest: the harder questions in each school chapter, understanding over memorising, and the Advanced papers if the common syllabus is secure. Entrance preparation belongs in Classes 11 and 12; see our Class 11 tuition in Gurgaon page when the time comes.

Class 9 and the stream choice after Class 10

Students choose Science, Commerce or Humanities after Class 10, and Class 9 gives useful evidence: watch how your child handles abstract maths, numerical physics and extended writing. Keep in mind:

  • CBSE Class 9 and 10 subjects form one course, and ICSE Class 10 subjects must match the Class 9 registration, so optional subjects chosen now usually stay.
  • CBSE's Advanced papers are optional, and their marks are not added to the total. We have not seen a CBSE rule linking them to Class 11 subject choice, so ask your school how it will offer them.
  • Dislike of maths in Class 9 often hides a fixable algebra gap. Fix it before deciding.

Our guide on which stream to choose after Class 10 covers the decision in detail, and Class 10 Maths Standard vs Basic, and what replaces it explains the Advanced option.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find a Class 9 home tutor near me in Gurgaon?

Yes. Our tutors come to homes across Gurgaon, from DLF and Golf Course Road to Sohna Road, New Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway, and also teach online. Tell us your sector to arrange a free demo.

Is your Class 9 tuition one-to-one?

Yes, always. We offer only one-to-one home tuition and one-to-one live online classes. Every session is for your child alone.

What are the tuition fees for Class 9 per month?

One-to-one home tuition with us usually costs ₹600 to ₹3,000 per hour depending on class, board and subject. To estimate a month, multiply the hourly rate by the hours per week, then by the number of weeks in the month (about four). For example, two one-hour sessions a week come to about eight hours a month. We confirm your rate before the first paid session.

Should my child take Maths Advanced or Science Advanced?

Only if the common syllabus is secure and the student enjoys harder problems. The papers are optional and their marks are not added to the total. We usually decide after the first school test.

Do you teach ICSE and IGCSE Class 9?

Yes. For ICSE we follow the 2028 syllabus and the school's books; for IGCSE, the Cambridge syllabus for your child's exam year, including the Core or Extended choice.

Who will teach my child?

A tutor from the Ajay Vatsyayan Classes Home Tutors Team, matched to your child's board, subjects and area. You meet the tutor in the free demo first, and you can ask for a male or female tutor.
