Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides one-to-one Class 6 home tuition in Gurgaon for CBSE and ICSE students, with a tutor at your home or in a live online session. The tutor starts with a short diagnostic, plans around your child's school calendar, and teaches Maths, Science, English, Social Science and languages from the books your school uses, including the new NCERT textbooks. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you decide.
We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. Class 6 is the first year of middle school, and for CBSE students in 2026–27 it also brings a third language. This page explains what changes in Class 6, what to focus on in each subject, and how our Class 6 tuition works week by week.
Our Class 6 tuition follows four steps: a diagnostic, a written plan, a weekly teaching cycle and a monthly review with parents. It is always one tutor and one student, so the pace is set by your child.
The first session is a short, relaxed check rather than a lecture. The tutor sets a few questions from Class 5 and early Class 6 topics and watches how your child thinks. The gaps we find in Class 6 are usually of four types:
The tutor writes a simple plan with you: the subjects, the chapters your school is teaching this term, the dates of periodic tests and half-yearly exams, and one or two habits to build first. Class 6 tests and projects are set by the school, so the plan follows the school's own timetable.
| Session | What happens | Your child's work before the next session |
|---|---|---|
| Session 1 (60 min) | Teach or reteach the chapter the school is on, then practice from easy to school-test level | A short question set, written with full working |
| Session 2 (60 min) | Check the set, fix mistakes together, then a second subject such as Science or English | Read the next chapter and mark two things that were not clear |
| Session 3 (optional) | Revision, grammar or writing practice, or guidance on a school project | Update the "mistakes notebook" |
Once a month the tutor tells you, in plain words, what has improved, what still needs work and what is coming up at school. After each school test, the tutor sorts every lost mark into "did not know", "careless slip" or "misread the question", because each needs a different fix.
From our tutors: in Class 6 we spend the first few weeks on habits as much as on chapters. A child who learns to show working, reread the question and keep a tidy notebook in Class 6 carries those habits into Classes 7 and 8, when chapters get longer.

For CBSE students it now means new NCERT textbooks, a third language, and new areas such as skill education and computational thinking. There is no board exam: CBSE holds board exams only in Class 10 and Class 12, so Class 6 tests are set by the school. We checked the facts below on ncert.nic.in and cbseacademic.nic.in on 30 September 2026.
NCERT rewrote its Class 6 books under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 (NCF-SE). The versions on the NCERT website are marked "Reprint 2026–27". Your child's school may add its own supplementary books.
| Subject | NCERT Class 6 textbook | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | Ganita Prakash | 10 chapters |
| Science | Curiosity | 12 chapters |
| English | Poorvi | 5 units |
| Social Science | Exploring Society: India and Beyond | 14 chapters in 5 themes |
| Hindi | Malhar | 13 chapters |
| Sanskrit | Deepakam | 16 chapters |
| Arts; Physical Education; Vocational Education | Kriti-I; Khel Yatra; Kaushal Bodh | Activity-based |
The new books ask more "why" and "what if" questions, with more activities and puzzles. Curious children enjoy this, but a child used to learning answers by heart can find open-ended questions hard at first. A patient one-to-one tutor helps most here.
CBSE is introducing a third language, called R3, from Class 6 in 2026–27, following the NCF-SE model of three languages (R1, R2, R3). From CBSE's circulars:
So the third language your child starts now is likely to stay until the Class 10 board exam. It deserves a steady base, not treatment as a light extra.
CBSE has a Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence curriculum for Classes 3 to 8 from 2026–27 (Circular Acad-15/2026), and describes skill education in Classes 6 to 8, using NCERT's Kaushal Bodh books, as mandatory. These are mainly school activities, but they add to the weekly load.
Schools run their own periodic tests, half-yearly and annual exams, projects and notebook checks. NCERT's PARAKH has also published a Holistic Progress Card for the middle stage, which records progress beyond marks, such as goals and self-assessment; schools vary in how they use it. Ask your school for its Class 6 assessment plan and share it with the tutor.
CISCE's first board exam is the ICSE exam in Class 10; its 2027 regulations say the exam presupposes a ten-year school course (Classes 1 to 10). In Class 6, CISCE schools set their own books and tests. We could not confirm a current official CISCE Class 6 syllabus, so our tutors work from the school's own syllabus. In our experience, ICSE schools often teach Class 6 Science as separate Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and expect longer written answers.
We teach every main Class 6 subject. Most families start with Maths and Science and add others if a test shows a need.
Ganita Prakash has 10 chapters: Patterns in Mathematics; Lines and Angles; Number Play; Data Handling and Presentation; Prime Time; Perimeter and Area; Fractions; Playing with Constructions; Symmetry; and The Other Side of Zero.
See also our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page.
Curiosity has 12 chapters: The Wonderful World of Science; Diversity in the Living World; Mindful Eating: A Path to a Healthy Body; Exploring Magnets; Measurement of Length and Motion; Materials Around Us; Temperature and its Measurement; A Journey through States of Water; Methods of Separation in Everyday Life; Living Creatures: Exploring their Characteristics; Nature's Treasures; and Beyond Earth.
Focus: observing carefully, measuring with units, and explaining an observation in two or three clear sentences. Tutors use simple home activities (a magnet and paper clips, a ruler, a glass of water) and ask the child to predict first, then check.
Poorvi has five units: Fables and Folk Tales; Friendship; Nurturing Nature; Sports and Wellness; and Culture and Tradition. School tests usually add grammar, comprehension and writing tasks.
Focus: answering in full sentences, basic grammar (tenses, subject–verb agreement, punctuation), and planning a paragraph before writing it.
Exploring Society: India and Beyond replaces the older separate History, Geography and Civics books with five themes: India and the World (land and people); Tapestry of the Past; Our Cultural Heritage and Knowledge Traditions; Governance and Democracy (including local government); and Economic Life Around Us.
Focus: map skills (latitude, longitude, continents and oceans), timelines, and explaining ideas in their own words. A short concept map after each chapter makes revision easier.
CBSE schools use Malhar for Hindi and Deepakam for Sanskrit. With the third language starting in Class 6, some children are meeting a language for the first time. We support Hindi, Sanskrit and French: reading aloud, grammar, vocabulary and short writing tasks. See our language tuition in Gurgaon page. For Grade 6 at IB or Cambridge schools, see our IB home tutors and IGCSE home tutors pages.
These are typical of the questions we use early in Class 6. Each shows a common mistake and the habit that fixes it.
A common wrong answer adds tops and bottoms: (3 + 2)/(4 + 3) = 5/7. That cannot be right, because 5/7 is smaller than 3/4 and we added something to 3/4. Instead, make the denominators equal. A common multiple of 4 and 3 is 12, so 3/4 = 9/12 and 2/3 = 8/12, and 9/12 + 8/12 = 17/12 = 1 5/12. Check by estimating: both fractions are a bit less than 1, so the answer should be a bit less than 2.
One bell rings every 6 minutes and another every 8 minutes. Both ring at 9:00. When do they next ring together? Multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24 …; multiples of 8 are 8, 16, 24 …. The first common multiple is 24, so the answer is 9:24. Many children multiply 6 × 8 = 48 and write 9:48. Both bells do ring then, but it is not the next time. Reading "next" carefully is half the question.
A ruler has its first 2 cm broken off. A pencil starts at the 2.0 cm mark and ends at the 9.5 cm mark. How long is it? Length = 9.5 cm − 2.0 cm = 7.5 cm (75 mm). The usual mistake is to write 9.5 cm. The habit: subtract the starting reading, keep your eye directly above the mark, and write the unit.
From our tutors: Class 6 children often know the method but skip the one line that shows it, such as "a common multiple of 4 and 3 is 12". We ask them to say that line aloud and then write it. Within a few weeks, most do it without reminders.
Class 6 is the right time to build study habits, while the workload is still manageable.
Parents help most by keeping the routine steady and asking "what did you learn today?" rather than "how many marks did you get?".
Most Gurgaon schools follow an April-to-March year with periodic tests and a half-yearly exam. Dates differ, so we adjust this plan to your child's school.
| Phase | Usual months | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Settling in | April–May | Diagnostic; fill Class 5 gaps; set the study slot and notebooks |
| 2. First chapters | June–August | Teaching alongside school; holiday homework and projects; first periodic test |
| 3. Half-yearly | September–October | Revision from the mistakes notebook; practice papers in the school's pattern |
| 4. Second term | November–January | New chapters; review of half-yearly papers; more writing practice |
| 5. Annual exams | February–March | Full revision; annual exams; a short preview of Class 7 |

Book a Free Class 6 Demo +91 92204 75088We offer two modes, both one-to-one: a tutor at your home, or a live online session. For most Class 6 children we suggest starting at home, because younger students concentrate better with a tutor beside them, and handwriting, notebooks and constructions are easier to check in person. Online works well once the routine is settled, or during travel and exam weeks.
| Home tuition (tutor visits) | Live online one-to-one | |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | Children who need close attention or hands-on work such as compass constructions | Settled, focused children, or families with changing schedules |
| Checking work | The tutor sees every step as it is written | Work shared on camera or by photo and marked on screen |
| Travel | None for the family in either mode | |

No. The school sets all Class 6 tests. But CBSE says students starting Class 6 in 2026–27 or later will take a board exam in their third language (R3) in Class 10.
Yes. We support Hindi, Sanskrit and French, focusing early on reading, vocabulary and simple writing so the language does not become a burden later.
Most do well with two one-hour sessions a week, covering Maths and one other subject. A third helps if several subjects are weak or a test is near. The tutor suggests a number after the diagnostic.
