Class 8 Home Tuition in Gurgaon – One-to-One CBSE & ICSE Tutors, at Home or Online

By the Ajay Vatsyayan Classes Home Tutors Team · Reviewed by Ajay Vatsyayan (Founder; B.Tech; IB and Cambridge IGCSE experienced). Last reviewed: 30 September 2026.

Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides one-to-one Class 8 home tuition in Gurgaon for CBSE and ICSE students: a tutor from our Home Tutors Team teaches your child at home, or in a live online class, and every session is for one student only. The tutor starts with a short diagnostic, follows your school's books and test dates, and uses Class 8 to close gaps in Maths, Science, English and Social Science before the heavier Class 9–10 years. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you decide.

We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. Below: the 2026–27 NCERT books, how Class 8 is assessed, what CBSE has announced for these students in Classes 9 and 10, and how our Class 8 home tuition in Gurgaon works.

How one-to-one Class 8 home tuition works

Our Class 8 tuition runs in four steps: a diagnostic, a written plan, a weekly teaching cycle and a monthly review with parents. The plan is built around one student's gaps.

Step 1: The diagnostic

The first session is a short test on chapters already done at school, followed by a conversation about how the student worked. In Class 8, lost marks usually come from:

  • Gaps from Classes 6 and 7: fractions, negative numbers or basic algebra that Class 8 chapters assume.
  • Reading the question: the new NCERT books ask "why" and "what if" questions, and students often answer a different question.
  • Working not shown: right answers with no steps, so no part marks and no way to find a slip.
  • Units and diagrams missing in Science answers.

Step 2: The plan

The tutor writes a plan with the family: chapters in the school's order, test and exam dates, project deadlines, and one or two "foundation" targets for the year, such as algebra fluency.

Step 3: The weekly cycle

A typical week has two or three sessions:

SessionWhat happensStudent's own work before the next session
Session 1 (60 min)Teach or reteach the chapter the school is on, from the NCERT book (CBSE) or the school's prescribed book (ICSE), then practise questions from easy to challengingA short practice set, written out in full
Session 2 (60 min)Check the set, fix mistakes, then the book's "think and reflect" style questions and one or two harder problemsA 15–20 minute self-test on the chapter
Session 3 (optional, 60 min)A second subject (often Science or Social Science), or revision of older chapters before a school testUpdate an error log: the mistake, why it happened, the correct method

Step 4: Monthly review

Once a month the tutor tells parents, in plain language, what is secure, what still needs work and what comes next.

From our tutors: the Class 8 students who find Class 9 easiest are rarely the ones who did the most worksheets. They are the ones who learned to explain a method in their own words. In sessions we often ask the student to teach a step back to us; if they cannot, the idea is not secure yet, however many correct answers they have written.

Schools decide the order and pace, so our tutors work from the student's own timetable and book list.

ICSE and international-board schools

ICSE schools in Gurgaon set their own Class 8 books and tests; the CISCE board exam comes at the end of Class 10. We could not check a CISCE Class 8 syllabus on cisce.org (the site was not reachable), so we ask for the school's book list at the demo. For Cambridge Lower Secondary or IB MYP students, see our IGCSE home tutors in Gurgaon and IB home tutors in Gurgaon pages.

How Class 8 is assessed

There is no board exam in Class 8. It is assessed entirely by the school, usually through unit tests, a half-yearly and an annual exam, plus projects and practical work. Each school sets its own pattern, so ask for your school's assessment policy.

  • Competency-style questions. The new NCERT books favour reasoning and real-life contexts over drill.
  • Holistic Progress Card. NCERT's PARAKH has published a Holistic Progress Card for the Middle Stage (Grades 6 to 8), which includes self-assessment and project work alongside teacher assessment (parakh.ncert.gov.in). Whether your school uses it, and in what form, is the school's decision.
  • Third language. Under CBSE's three-language guidelines (press release of 29 June 2026 and circular Acad-49/2026 of 10 July 2026), students in Class 8 in 2026–27 will study three languages in Classes 9 and 10, at least two of them Indian languages. A Class 8 student who has been studying two non-Indian languages continues with them and adds one Indian language. The third language is assessed only by the school; there will be no CBSE board exam in it for these students.

Preparing for Classes 9 and 10

Class 8 matters because Classes 9 and 10 are one continuous course that ends in the Class 10 board exam, and CBSE is changing that course. According to CBSE's Secondary Curriculum 2026–27 (Part 1), checked on 30 September 2026, a student in Class 8 now will be in Class 9 in 2027–28 and take the Class 10 board exam in 2029 under a new scheme:

What changesFor students in Class 8 in 2026–27
Maths and ScienceNo Standard/Basic choice. Everyone sits one common Mathematics paper and one common Science paper (80 marks, 3 hours). There are optional Mathematics Advanced and Science Advanced papers of 25 marks and 1 hour
Advanced papers on the marksheetA score of 50% or more earns a note that the Advanced level has been cleared. The marks are not added to the total
LanguagesThree languages in Classes 9–10; two with board exams, the third assessed by the school
New subjectsCBSE's tables list Computational Thinking and AI (CT & AI) in Classes 9–10 from 2027–28, with details "to be informed in due course"

Plans can change, so check CBSE circulars each year. What does not change is what a Class 8 student needs: fluent fractions and percentages, confident algebra, powers, the Pythagoras theorem, and science answers written with a reason and a unit.

CBSE also lists a Class 9 book, "Mathematics at Advanced Level (Optional)", covering sets, logarithms, relations and functions, coordinate geometry, combinatorics and progressions. Our guide to Class 10 Maths Standard vs Basic, and what replaces it explains the Advanced option. When your child moves up, see our Class 9 tuition in Gurgaon and Class 10 home tutors in Gurgaon pages, and later our guide on which stream to choose after Class 10.

From our tutors: the most common Class 9 problem we are called in for is not a Class 9 chapter. It is Class 8 algebra: sign errors when expanding brackets, and not knowing when to factorise. We spend real time on "We Distribute, Yet Things Multiply" and "Algebra Play" in Class 8, because an hour a week there saves many hours of reteaching in Class 9.

Class 8 subjects we teach, with worked examples

Our Class 8 home tutors in Gurgaon teach every main subject for CBSE and ICSE. Most families start with Maths and Science. The examples below are the kind we use in sessions.

Mathematics

We teach from Ganita Prakash (or the ICSE school's book), with step-by-step working, a formula and method notebook the student builds, and harder problems for students who are ready. Our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page explains how we teach maths across classes.

Worked example 1 (A Square and A Cube). What is the smallest number by which 1323 must be multiplied to make a perfect cube?

  • Prime factorise: 1323 = 3 × 3 × 3 × 7 × 7 = 3³ × 7².
  • In a perfect cube every prime appears in sets of three. The 3s are complete; the 7s need one more.
  • So multiply by 7: 1323 × 7 = 9261 = 21³ (since 21 × 21 × 21 = 9261).

A common mistake is to multiply by 49: that gives a cube, but not the smallest multiplier.

Worked example 2 (Fractions in Disguise: percentages). A bicycle costs ₹2,000. Its price rises by 20% and later falls by 20%. What is the final price?

  • After the rise: 2,000 × 1.2 = ₹2,400.
  • After the fall: 2,400 × 0.8 = ₹1,920.
  • So the final price is ₹80 less than at the start, a net fall of 80 ÷ 2,000 = 4%.

Many students answer "no change", forgetting that the second 20% is taken of a bigger number.

Science

We teach from Curiosity: concepts first, then diagrams drawn and labelled by the student, simple numericals set out with units, and the book's activities linked to theory.

Worked example 3 (Pressure, Winds, Storms, and Cyclones). A box weighing 600 N rests on a face measuring 50 cm × 40 cm. What pressure does it exert? What if it is turned onto a face measuring 40 cm × 30 cm?

  • Pressure = force ÷ area, and the SI unit is N/m², also called a pascal (Pa).
  • Convert to metres first: 50 cm × 40 cm = 0.5 m × 0.4 m = 0.2 m². Pressure = 600 ÷ 0.2 = 3,000 Pa.
  • Second face: 0.4 m × 0.3 m = 0.12 m². Pressure = 600 ÷ 0.12 = 5,000 Pa.

The same weight on a smaller area gives more pressure. Skipping the cm-to-m conversion gives 0.3 (N/cm², not pascals) and loses the mark.

English

With Poorvi we work on reading for meaning, answers backed by the text, grammar in context, and writing tasks such as letters and short reports.

Social Science

We use timelines, concept maps, map practice and short answers that stay on the question, and we help with projects.

Hindi, Sanskrit, French and the third language

We support Hindi (Malhar), Sanskrit (Deepakam) and French: grammar, comprehension, writing and textbook chapters, including students starting a new Indian language under the three-language rules. See our language tuition in Gurgaon page.

A Class 8 term plan

We follow the school's calendar. The CBSE school year runs from April to March, and many schools hold a half-yearly exam around September and an annual exam in February or March, but dates differ, so each plan is fitted to the student's own school.

PhaseUsual monthsFocus
1. Diagnose and settleApril–MayDiagnostic; fix Class 7 gaps (fractions, integers, simple equations); start the first chapters with the school; set up the error log
2. BuildJune–AugustChapter-by-chapter teaching; first unit tests; projects and activities; algebra and squares/cubes made fluent
3. Half-yearlySeptemberMixed revision of the first term, timed practice, calm exam routine
4. Second termOctober–JanuaryPart II books; harder problems for students who are ready; writing structured science and social science answers
5. Annual exam and bridgeFebruary–MarchFull-syllabus revision, then a short bridge into Class 9 topics once exams end
