Class 7 Home Tuition in Gurgaon – One-to-One CBSE & ICSE Tutors at Home or Online

By the Ajay Vatsyayan Classes Home Tutors Team · Reviewed by Ajay Vatsyayan (Founder; B.Tech; IB and Cambridge IGCSE experienced). Last reviewed: 30 September 2026.

Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides one-to-one Class 7 home tuition in Gurgaon for CBSE and ICSE students: a tutor from our Home Tutors Team teaches your child at home, or in a live online class. The tutor starts with a short diagnostic, follows your child's school syllabus and test dates, and focuses on the ideas later classes depend on: integers, fractions, algebraic expressions and simple equations, and clear answers in Science and Social Science. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you decide.

We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. This page covers the new NCERT Class 7 books for 2026–27, how Class 7 is assessed, and how our tutors teach it.

How one-to-one Class 7 home tuition works

Our Class 7 tuition follows four steps: a diagnostic, a written plan, a weekly teaching cycle, and a monthly review with parents. Class 7 has no board exam, so the aim is understanding each chapter well enough to use it next year.

Step 1: The diagnostic

The first session is a short, relaxed check. The tutor asks questions from chapters already done at school and watches how your child works. Class 7 gaps are usually one of four types: number gaps from Class 6 (fractions, decimals, negative numbers); reading gaps (misreading a word problem); explanation gaps (knowing a Science fact but not explaining it); and habit gaps (no rough work, skipped steps).

Step 2: The plan

The tutor writes a simple plan with you: chapters in your school's order, test and exam dates, school projects, and the two or three gaps to fix first.

Step 3: The weekly cycle

A typical week has two or three sessions, fitted around school and activities:

SessionWhat happensYour child's own work before the next session
Session 1 (about an hour)Teach or reteach the chapter the school is on, from the NCERT book (CBSE) or the school's prescribed book (ICSE), with questions from easy to harderA short practice set, written out in full
Session 2 (about an hour)Check the practice set, fix mistakes, then word problems and "explain why" questionsA few mixed questions from older chapters
Session 3 (optional)A second subject, such as Science, English or Social Science, or revision before a school testUpdate a mistakes notebook: what went wrong and the right method

Step 4: The monthly review

Once a month the tutor tells you what has been covered, how school tests went and what comes next.

From our tutors: in Class 7, the biggest improvement usually comes from fixing Class 6 fractions and negative numbers, not from racing ahead. A child who is slow with fractions struggles in algebra, decimals and Science numericals, so we often spend the first few weeks there.

Class 7 syllabus and NCERT books for 2026–27

CBSE schools in 2026–27 use NCERT's new Grade 7 textbooks, written to NCF-SE 2023. They replaced the older Class 7 books in 2025; the copies on ncert.nic.in are marked "Reprint 2026-27" (checked 30 September 2026).

SubjectNCERT Grade 7 textbookWhat is in it
MathematicsGanita Prakash, Part I and Part IIPart I (8 chapters): Large Numbers Around Us; Arithmetic Expressions; A Peek Beyond the Point; Expressions using Letter-Numbers; Parallel and Intersecting Lines; Number Play; A Tale of Three Intersecting Lines; Working with Fractions. Part II (7 chapters, first published October 2025): Geometric Twins; Operations with Integers; Finding Common Ground; Another Peek Beyond the Point; Connecting the Dots; Constructions and Tilings; Finding the Unknown
ScienceCuriosity12 chapters, from acids and bases, circuits and metals to heat, motion, life processes, light, and the Earth, Moon and Sun
Social ScienceExploring Society: India and Beyond, Part 1 and Part 2History, geography, governance and economics taught together through five themes. Part 1 has 12 chapters; Part 2 (November 2025) has 8
EnglishPoorviFive units: Learning Together; Wit and Humour; Dreams and Discoveries; Travel and Adventure; Bravehearts
HindiMalharProse, poetry and language work
SanskritDeepakamFor students who take Sanskrit
Arts, physical education, vocational educationKriti, Khel Yatra, Kaushal BodhActivity-based subjects

Two points matter for parents. First, the Maths book is in two parts, and many schools teach Part I in the first term and Part II in the second. Second, some topics that parents remember from the older Class 7 NCERT book, such as rational numbers, profit and loss, and simple interest, are not chapters in Ganita Prakash Grade 7. ICSE and other schools that use private-publisher books may still teach them, so our tutors always start from your school's own syllabus sheet.

How Class 7 is assessed in CBSE and ICSE schools

There is no board exam in Class 7. CBSE's main exams are in Classes 10 and 12, and CISCE's are the ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12). In Class 7, your child's school sets and marks all tests.

CBSE schools

Most CBSE schools in Gurgaon combine periodic tests, a half-yearly and an annual exam with projects and notebooks. Three official points for 2026–27:

  • Holistic Progress Card: NCERT's PARAKH has published a Holistic Progress Card for the Middle Stage (Classes 6–8). It records progress through teacher feedback, portfolios, peer reflection and self-assessment, not only marks.
  • Computational thinking and AI: CBSE's 2026–27 curriculum document directs schools to introduce computational thinking and basic AI literacy in Classes 6–8 through worksheets, projects and activities within existing subject periods, not as a separate exam subject.
  • Three languages: CBSE's Circular Acad-49/2026 (10 July 2026) says students in Class 7 in 2026–27 will continue to study three languages in Classes 9 and 10, with two of them Indian languages. Students of this year's Class 7 who had chosen two non-native languages must study one Indian language and continue it until Class 10. The third language will be assessed only by the school, and there will be no CBSE board exam in it when these students reach Class 10.

ICSE schools

CISCE schools in Gurgaon set their own Class 7 syllabus and tests, usually with private-publisher textbooks. Many teach Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately and expect longer written answers in English, History and Geography. We work from the syllabus your school gives you.

Class 7 subjects and the concepts that matter

We teach every Class 7 subject for CBSE and ICSE; most families start with Maths and Science. For Maths beyond Class 7, see our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page.

Mathematics

Class 7 is where arithmetic turns into algebra. The concepts that matter most:

  • Integers: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing negative numbers, and the sign rules behind them.
  • Fractions and decimals: multiplying and dividing fractions, and all four operations with decimals.
  • Algebraic expressions: using letters for numbers, simplifying expressions and checking them by substituting values.
  • Simple equations: turning a word problem into an equation and solving it step by step.
  • Geometry: parallel lines and angles, triangles, congruence ("geometric twins") and constructions.
  • Data: mean, median and mode.

How we teach it: every step written, a rough-work column, and a check on each answer. We use the NCERT puzzles and "figure it out" questions, because school tests now reward that thinking.

Science

  • Chemistry ideas: acidic, basic and neutral substances; metals and non-metals; physical and chemical changes.
  • Physics ideas: electric circuits and their parts; heat transfer; measurement of time and motion, including speed; light, shadows and reflection.
  • Biology ideas: life processes in animals and plants; adolescence.
  • Earth and space: the Earth, Moon and Sun.

The first chapter of Curiosity, "The Ever-Evolving World of Science", is described by NCERT as non-evaluative, so it is usually not tested.

How we teach it: safe home activities, labelled diagrams, numericals with units, and "explain why" answers in the child's own words.

English

Close reading of the Poorvi texts, answers in full sentences, grammar (tenses, voice, reported speech) and writing tasks such as letters, notices and short essays.

Social Science

In CBSE schools, Exploring Society covers topics such as India's geography and climate, early empires and the Gupta period, types of government, the Constitution, money, markets and banking. ICSE schools usually teach History and Civics and Geography separately. How we teach it: timelines, maps from memory, and short answers with the right key terms.

Hindi, Sanskrit and French

Grammar, comprehension and writing, including the third language. See our language tuition in Gurgaon page for English, Hindi, Sanskrit, French and other languages.

Worked examples: where Class 7 students lose marks

These are the kinds of questions our tutors use in a diagnostic. Each answer has been checked.

Example 1: Integers

Find (−8) × (−3) + 12 ÷ (−4).

Multiplication and division come first. (−8) × (−3) = 24 (two negatives give a positive) and 12 ÷ (−4) = −3. So the answer is 24 + (−3) = 21. The common mistake is writing (−8) × (−3) = −24, which gives −27.

Example 2: Dividing fractions

A tailor has 3 3/4 m of cloth. Each cushion cover needs 5/8 m. How many covers can be made?

Change the mixed number to a fraction: 3 3/4 = 15/4. Dividing by 5/8 is the same as multiplying by 8/5, so 15/4 × 8/5 = 120/20 = 6 covers. Students who multiply by 5/8 instead get about 2.3, which should look wrong: each cover uses less than 1 m.

Example 3: Expressions and simple equations

(a) Simplify 3(a + 4) − 2a. (b) The length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than its breadth, and its perimeter is 50 cm. Find its length and breadth.

(a) 3(a + 4) − 2a = 3a + 12 − 2a = a + 12. Check with a = 5: 3 × 9 − 10 = 17, and 5 + 12 = 17.

(b) Let the breadth be b cm, so the length is b + 5 cm. Perimeter = 2(length + breadth), so 2(b + 5 + b) = 50, which gives 4b + 10 = 50, 4b = 40 and b = 10. The breadth is 10 cm and the length is 15 cm. Check: 2 × (15 + 10) = 50.

Example 4: Speed (Science)

A cyclist covers 3 km in 10 minutes. Find the speed in km/h and in m/s.

10 minutes = 1/6 hour, so speed = 3 ÷ 1/6 = 18 km/h. In metres and seconds: 3 km = 3,000 m and 10 minutes = 600 s, so speed = 3,000 ÷ 600 = 5 m/s. The usual slip is writing 3 ÷ 10 = 0.3 km/h without changing minutes to hours.

From our tutors: we ask Class 7 students to end every answer with a one-line check: substitute back, estimate, or ask "does this make sense?" A cyclist at 0.3 km/h would be slower than walking. That habit catches more mistakes than extra worksheets.

Bridging Class 7 to Class 8

In CBSE schools, Class 8 uses the next books in the same NCERT series (Ganita Prakash, Curiosity, Poorvi and Exploring Society: India and Beyond). What to secure before Class 8:

Class 7 skillWhy it matters in Class 8 and later
Integer sign rulesEvery algebra and equation chapter uses them; a sign error spoils a correct method
Fraction and decimal operationsNeeded for percentages, ratio, measurement and Science numericals
Simplifying expressionsThe base for algebraic identities and factorisation later
Forming and solving simple equationsWord problems in Maths and formula work in Science depend on it
Explaining in full sentencesScience and Social Science answers get longer every year

Further ahead, CBSE's 2026–27 Secondary curriculum replaces the Standard/Basic Maths choice with one common Maths and Science course plus an optional Advanced level, starting in Class 9 from 2026–27. Today's Class 7 students reach Class 9 in 2028–29, and a strong foundation keeps that option open. Our Class 8 home tuition in Gurgaon page covers the next year, and our Class 6 home tuition page helps if Class 6 gaps need fixing first.

Home tuition or online classes?

Both are one-to-one, with the same tutor and plan. Home tuition suits most Class 7 students, because a tutor beside the child sees every step of their written work. Live online classes suit busy evenings, travel, or a better-matched tutor who lives further away; the child shares photos of their work and the tutor marks them on screen. Many families use home sessions in term and online classes in exam weeks or holidays.

You can ask for a male or female tutor. See also our female home tutors in Gurgaon page.

What's included, and the free demo class

Every Class 7 tuition plan includes:

  • A diagnostic and written plan built around your school's syllabus and test dates.
  • Teaching from the right book: the NCERT Grade 7 textbooks for CBSE, or your school's prescribed books for ICSE.
  • Practice and a mistakes notebook, so the same error does not repeat.
  • Help with projects and activities the school sets, guided but done by your child.
  • Monthly updates to parents on progress and what comes next.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide Class 7 home tutors in Gurgaon, or only online classes?

Both. Our Class 7 tutors visit homes across Gurgaon, from DLF and Golf Course Road to Sohna Road, New Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway, and also teach live online classes one-to-one.

Which NCERT books are used in Class 7 in 2026–27?

CBSE schools use NCERT's new Grade 7 books: Ganita Prakash Parts I and II (Maths), Curiosity (Science), Exploring Society: India and Beyond Parts 1 and 2 (Social Science), Poorvi (English), Malhar (Hindi) and Deepakam (Sanskrit). Check your school's book list, as some schools add other books.

Is there a board exam in Class 7?

No. Class 7 tests are set and marked by the school; CBSE and CISCE board exams come in Classes 10 and 12. That makes Class 7 a good year to fix gaps calmly.

Do you teach ICSE Class 7 as well as CBSE?

Yes. ICSE schools set their own Class 7 syllabus and books, so our tutors plan from your school's syllabus sheet.

My child was fine in Class 6 but is struggling in Class 7 Maths. Why?

Class 7 adds negative numbers, fraction division and algebra, each built on Class 6. A small earlier gap often shows up now, and a diagnostic usually finds it quickly.

Who will teach my child?

A tutor from the Ajay Vatsyayan Classes Home Tutors Team, matched to your child's board, subjects and location, with content reviewed by our founder, Ajay Vatsyayan. You meet the tutor in the demo first and can ask for a male or female tutor.

How much does Class 7 home tuition cost, and do you guarantee marks?

Fees depend on subjects, mode and sessions a week, and we confirm yours before you start. We do not guarantee marks or ranks; nobody honestly can.
