Ajay Vatsyayan Classes provides one-to-one CBSE Class 11 & 12 home tutors in Gurgaon for every main subject in PCM, PCB, PCMB, Commerce and Humanities, at your home or in live online classes. This page is about the combination: the subjects your child studies together for two years, how CBSE marks them, and how they fit the board exam and JEE, NEET or CUET. You meet the tutor in a free demo class before you decide.
We have taught in Gurgaon (Gurugram) for 12+ years, with 25,000+ students, 500+ verified tutors and families from 50+ Gurgaon schools. Whether you searched for physics, maths, commerce or PCB tuition near you, the real question is which subjects need a tutor, and how to keep the whole combination on track. For year-by-year detail, see our Class 11 tuition in Gurgaon and Class 12 tuition in Gurgaon pages.
Every session is one tutor with one student, at home or online. The plan covers the whole combination, because subjects compete for the same evenings.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Combination review | The five main subjects (and any sixth), school test dates, practical and project deadlines and any entrance exam, checked against CBSE's and the entrance exam's subject rules. |
| 2. Diagnostic | A short test in each subject that needs support, to find Class 10 or 11 gaps. |
| 3. One plan | Subjects ranked by risk: which need weekly sessions, which only exam-season support, and where entrance work fits. |
| 4. Weekly cycle | 60–90 minute sessions, practice sets, an error log and timed papers before school exams, with a short update to parents after each test. |
Many families need a tutor for only two or three subjects. Where more than one of our tutors teaches a student, they share one plan and calendar.

A common question: "Can my child take PCMB and still keep Computer Science?" PCMB with English already makes five, so Computer Science would be a sixth subject, possible only if the school timetable allows it. Ask the school early.
Under CBSE a "stream" is really a set of five subjects your school timetables together. If your child is still in Class 10, our guide to which stream to choose after Class 10 covers the decision in more depth.
| Combination | Usual subjects (with English) | Entrance exams it fits | Where tuition usually helps most |
|---|---|---|---|
| PCM | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics + one more (e.g. Computer Science, Economics) | JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, CUET | Physics numericals, Class 12 calculus, physical chemistry |
| PCB | Physics, Chemistry, Biology + one more (e.g. Psychology) | NEET (UG), CUET | Physics, organic chemistry, Biology diagrams |
| PCMB | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology | JEE and NEET both remain possible; CUET | Time: three practical subjects plus Mathematics |
| Commerce with Mathematics | Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics (041) | CUET; keeps maths-heavy courses open | Accountancy formats, calculus |
| Commerce with Applied Mathematics | Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Applied Mathematics (241) | CUET | Financial maths, statistics, Accountancy |
| Commerce without Maths | Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics + another elective | CUET | Accountancy, case-based answers |
PCM keeps engineering open, and JEE (Advanced) 2026 required Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory Class 12 subjects. The fifth subject is the real choice. Computer Science (083), Python and SQL with 30 practical marks, suits students who enjoy programming; see our computer science home tutor in Gurgaon page.
PCB is the NEET combination. The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin requires Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English in Class 12, with practical tests in the sciences. PCB students take the same Physics and Chemistry as PCM students, so the numericals are no lighter. See our NEET chemistry home tuition in Gurgaon page.
PCMB delays the engineering-or-medicine decision by two years, at a cost: four science and maths subjects, three of them with practicals, plus English. It suits a student genuinely strong in both Mathematics and Biology, rarely one who "has not decided yet". Review it after the Class 11 half-yearly exam.
Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics are the core; the fourth subject matters. Mathematics (041) keeps the most options open; Applied Mathematics (241) was designed for commerce and social science students. See our Class 11 page and our guide to Class 10 Maths Standard vs Basic. In Class 12, Applied Mathematics has eight units: numbers, quantification and numerical applications 11, algebra 10, calculus 15, probability distributions 10, inferential statistics 5, time-based data 6, financial mathematics 15 and linear programming 8. That makes 80 theory marks, plus 20 internal.
From our tutors: the combination problem we meet most often is not a wrong stream but a lopsided one. A PCM student strong in Maths quietly falls behind in Chemistry, or a Commerce student manages Business Studies but not Accountancy. These gaps compound over two years, so our first job is to find the weakest subject, which is not always the one the family asked about.
Our tutors teach History, Political Science, Geography and Psychology for CBSE Classes 11 and 12. They reward wide reading, structured long answers and, in Geography and Psychology, careful practical work.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Practical or internal | What tutors focus on |
|---|---|---|---|
| History (027) | 80 (includes map work) | 20 project | Source-based answers |
| Political Science (028) | 80 | 20 project | Passage and cartoon questions |
| Geography (029) | 70 (includes map work) | 30 practical | Maps, data, practical file |
| Psychology (037) | 70 | 30 practical (experiments, project, viva) | Case-based answers |
We also teach English and other languages through our language tuition in Gurgaon.
Every subject is out of 100, but the split differs (CBSE 2026–27 list of subjects; Humanities as above).
| Subject (code) | Theory | Practical | Internal assessment or project |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044) | 70 | 30 | – |
| Mathematics (041), Applied Mathematics (241) | 80 | – | 20 |
| Computer Science (083), Informatics Practices (065) | 70 | 30 | – |
| Accountancy (055), Business Studies (054), Economics (030) | 80 | 20 (project work) | |
| English Core (301) | 80 | – | 20 |
CBSE's pass criteria for the Class 12 board exam require 33% in each subject. In a subject with practicals, the student needs 33% in theory and 33% in practical separately, as well as 33% overall.
Worked example: a Physics student scores 22 out of 70 in theory and 28 out of 30 in practical. The total is 50 out of 100, which looks safe. But 33% of 70 is 23.1 marks, and 22 is only 31.4% of the theory paper, so the theory requirement is not met, even with 93% in the practical. Our tutors keep the focus on the 70-mark paper, and put practical file and project deadlines (three sets for PCMB) in the plan in April.
An entrance exam decides which subjects must appear in Class 12, and whether board marks count. Facts below are from the NTA's JEE (Main), NEET (UG) and CUET (UG) 2026 information bulletins and the JEE (Advanced) 2026 brochure; the 2027 documents were not published when we checked on 30 September 2026.
| Exam (2026) | Class 12 subjects required | Do board marks matter? | What it means for the combination |
|---|---|---|---|
| JEE Main, for B.E./B.Tech in the NIT+ system | Physics, Mathematics, a language, one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a technical vocational subject, and one more subject | Yes: 75% aggregate in five subjects (65% for SC, ST and PwD), or the category-wise top 20 percentile of the board | A weak fifth subject can cost NIT eligibility |
| JEE Advanced | Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects | IIT admission rules apply; see jeeadv.ac.in | PCM or PCMB |
| NEET (UG) | Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English, with practical tests | You must pass the qualifying exam with these subjects | PCB or PCMB |
| CUET (UG) | Up to five subjects, including languages and the General Aptitude Test, chosen "irrespective of the subjects opted in class XII" | University programme rules apply | Domain subjects follow NCERT, so board work is CUET work |
Worked example, the 75% line: a PCM student with Computer Science scores English 84, Physics 72, Chemistry 70, Mathematics 66 and Computer Science 88. The total is 380 out of 500, or 76%, just above 75%. If Mathematics had been 58, the total would be 372, or 74.4%, and NIT admission would then depend on the top-20-percentile route. JoSAA's business rules for the year decide exactly which five subjects count.
In 2026, JEE Main ran 21–30 January and 2–9 April, and CUET (UG) was scheduled for 11–31 May (tentative), close to the board exams. Check the current notices on jeemain.nta.nic.in, neet.nta.nic.in and cuet.nta.nic.in.

This combination-level view sits on top of the detailed plans on our Class 11 and Class 12 pages.
| Stage | Combination-level decisions |
|---|---|
| Class 11, April–July | Confirm the subjects; close Class 10 gaps (algebra for PCM, the mole concept for PCB, arithmetic for Commerce) |
| Class 11, after the half-yearly exam | Is any subject falling behind? Is PCMB still realistic? |
| Class 11, final exam to April | Repair weak Class 11 units, which JEE and NEET also test, before Class 12 starts |
| Class 12, April–October | Most sessions to the riskiest subject; projects and practical files early |
| Class 12, November to the board exam | Timed papers in every subject, not only the favourite; entrance mocks if needed |
From our tutors: in Class 12 the subject that slips is usually the one without a tutor. We ask families to show us the school test results for all five subjects, not just the one we teach, so the plan protects the whole mark sheet.
You can ask for a male or female tutor. We do not promise marks or ranks; we promise a clear plan and honest feedback.
We teach students from CBSE schools such as Delhi Public School, Sector 45; Amity International School, Sector 46; Lotus Valley International School (Nirvana Country); Presidium, Sector 57; Summer Fields School, DLF; Ridge Valley School (DLF Phase 4); Salwan Public School, Gurugram; and Heritage Xperiential Learning School (Sector 62). Yes. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology with English make five subjects, which meets CBSE's minimum. It keeps JEE and NEET open, with three practical subjects.
No. CBSE's 2026–27 scheme does not allow Mathematics (041) with Applied Mathematics (241). It also allows only one of Computer Science, Informatics Practices and Information Technology.
Yes. The JEE (Main) 2026 bulletin says admission to NITs, IIITs and the rest of the NIT+ system needs 75% aggregate in five Class 12 subjects (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates), or a place in the category-wise top 20 percentile of the board.
The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin requires Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English, and it accepts these "even as additional subjects". Check the current NEET bulletin for your year.
