Free Demo Class for CBSE Class 6 & 7 (All Subjects) in Gurgaon

Free Demo Class for CBSE Class 6 & 7 (All Subjects) in Gurgaon

Ajay Vatsyayan Classes offers a free one-to-one demo class for CBSE Class 6 and Class 7 in any subject: Maths, Science, English, Social Science, Hindi, Sanskrit or the new third language. The demo takes place at your home in Gurgaon or live online. The tutor uses your child's own NCERT books, Ganita Prakash, Curiosity and Poorvi, to see how your child handles the more open-ended questions these books ask. You then get a plain account of what needs work. This post explains what the demo checks in each subject, what CBSE's third-language (R3) rules mean for Class 6 and Class 7, and how to get the most from the hour.

What the free Class 6–7 demo covers

  • Subjects: any main CBSE subject. Most families start with Maths or Science; many add English or the third language.
  • Format: one tutor and one child, at home anywhere in Gurugram or online.
  • Length: about 1 hour per subject, including a few minutes with a parent at the end.
  • Material: the chapter your child's school is teaching this month, from the book they actually use.
  • Cost and commitment: none. You decide afterwards whether to continue.

The demo is not a board-exam rehearsal. Class 6 and 7 have no board exam, so the focus is on foundations and habits. Our Class 10 demo post covers the board year.

Why Class 6 and 7 feel different now: the new NCERT books

NCERT has replaced its middle-school textbooks with new books written under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The books use more puzzles, activities and "figure it out" questions, and fewer drill exercises. Children who learnt by memorising in primary school often find this change harder than parents expect. The demo is designed to find out quickly how your child is coping.

SubjectClass 6 bookClass 7 bookWhat the demo checks
MathematicsGanita Prakash (10 chapters)Ganita Prakash Part I and Part IIFractions, number sense, and whether the child can explain a pattern rather than only compute
ScienceCuriosity (12 chapters)Curiosity (12 chapters)Predicting before observing, using units, and explaining "why" in two or three sentences
EnglishPoorvi (5 units)Poorvi (5 units)Reading for meaning, full-sentence answers and basic grammar in the child's own writing
Social ScienceExploring Society: India and BeyondExploring Society: India and Beyond, Parts 1 and 2Map reading, timelines, and explaining an idea without copying the textbook line

Two points often surprise parents. First, in Class 7 the Maths book comes in two parts, and many schools teach Part II in the second term. Second, some topics parents remember from their own Class 7, such as profit and loss or simple interest, are not chapters in the new Class 7 Ganita Prakash. Schools that add private-publisher books may still teach them, so the tutor always asks for your school's syllabus sheet. The chapter lists are on our Class 6 tuition in Gurgaon and Class 7 home tuition pages.

The third language (R3): what CBSE has said

CBSE schools now teach three languages, called R1, R2 and R3. The rules differ for Class 6 and Class 7, and this is where many families have questions. The points below are from CBSE circulars on cbseacademic.nic.in, checked on 30 September 2026.

The general rule

  • At least two of the three languages must be Indian languages (CBSE's examples include Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Tamil and Bengali).
  • A non-Indian language, such as French or German, can be the third language only if the other two are Indian languages (Circular Acad-49/2026, 10 July 2026).

For children in Class 6 in 2026–27

  • CBSE told schools to start R3 in Class 6 immediately (Circular Acad-17/2026, 9 April 2026), with a follow-up on compliance (Acad-25/2026, 4 May 2026).
  • Only the R3 languages a school introduces in Class 6 will be available to its students in Classes 9 and 10 (Acad-17/2026).
  • Children in Class 6 this year, and all later Class 6 students, will take a CBSE board exam in R3 in Class 10 (Acad-49/2026).

For children in Class 7 in 2026–27

  • They will continue with three languages in Classes 9 and 10, two of them Indian languages.
  • Students who had already started two non-Indian languages must study one Indian language and continue it until Class 10.
  • Their third language will be assessed only by the school. There will be no CBSE board exam in R3 when these children reach Class 10 (Acad-49/2026).

In practice, a Class 6 child's third language is a subject that runs through to the Class 10 board exam. If your child is meeting Hindi or Sanskrit script for the first time, you can book a language demo alongside Maths or Science. If your school has not yet told you which R3 languages it offers, ask it directly. We cannot confirm what any individual school offers.

Inside the demo: sample tasks by subject

The tutor adapts to your child, but these are typical of what a Class 6–7 demo looks like.

Maths

The tutor might show the pattern 1, 3, 6, 10, 15 and ask what comes next and why. Most children find 21. The useful part is whether they can say "each time you add one more than last time". In Class 7, a short integer question such as (−8) − (−3) shows quickly whether the sign rules are secure or guessed.

Science

A typical start is "Which of these will a magnet pick up: an iron nail, a plastic ruler, a ball of aluminium foil and a pencil? Guess first." Your child predicts, and then the tutor asks them to explain what they found in writing. It shows how they think and how they write in one short task.

English

Your child reads a short passage from Poorvi aloud and answers two questions: one whose answer is in the text, and one that asks what they think. Children who handle the first but not the second usually need help with inference, not vocabulary.

Third language

Reading a few simple words, recognising letters, and writing one short sentence. The goal is to learn where to start, not to test.

From our tutors: the gap we find most often in Class 6–7 Maths demos is not a hard chapter. It is fractions from Class 4 and 5 that were never fully understood. A child who adds 1/2 and 1/3 to get 2/5 will struggle through integers, ratios and algebra until that is fixed, so the demo nearly always includes one fraction question.

From our tutors: in the new Science book, many children can do the activity but freeze when asked to write what they observed. We make them say it aloud first, then write exactly what they said. Most can manage that within a few sessions.

What you hear at the end

Before leaving, the tutor spends a few minutes with you. You should come away with:

  1. two or three specific strengths, named by topic;
  2. the gaps found, including any from earlier classes;
  3. one study habit to start this week, such as a fixed homework time or a mistakes notebook;
  4. a suggested number of sessions a week, with reasons;
  5. anything urgent before the next periodic test or half-yearly exam.

If the answer is vague, ask for specifics. Our guide to choosing a home tutor in Gurgaon has a checklist of questions to use.

How to prepare for a Class 6–7 demo

  • Your school's syllabus sheet or term plan. It shows which book chapters, and any extra books, are in the next test.
  • The R3 details. Which third language your child studies, and which book the school uses.
  • Two notebooks. One subject your child likes and one they avoid. The difference is revealing.
  • A quiet half-hour before. Not straight after a long school day and a sports class, if you can avoid it.

If your child attends a CBSE school such as Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Presidium, Sector 57 or Vega Schools (Sector 76), the syllabus sheet usually comes through the school diary or app at the start of each term (we are not affiliated with any school named here).

Home or online for an 11- or 12-year-old?

For most children of this age we suggest starting at home. A tutor sitting beside the child can see every step as it is written, correct pencil work in geometry, and keep attention steady. Online works well once a routine is settled, or for a quick language session. Both are one-to-one. Some families prefer a female tutor at this age; our page on female home tutors in Gurgaon explains how that is arranged. Home demos cover sectors across the city, including the newer ones listed on our Sectors 80–89 home tutors page.

Ajay Vatsyayan Classes has supported Gurgaon families for 12+ years, and the tutor for your demo comes from our 500+ verified tutors. For the year ahead, our maths home tutors in Gurgaon page shows how Maths support continues from Class 6 upwards.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a board exam in Class 6 or Class 7?

No. The school sets and marks all tests in both classes. The only board-exam link is the third language: children in Class 6 from 2026–27 onwards will take an R3 board exam in Class 10.

Can we book a demo for all subjects?

Yes, but book one demo per subject, ideally on different days. An hour split between four subjects shows you very little about any of them.

Do you also help ICSE Class 6 and 7 students?

Yes. This post focuses on CBSE and the NCERT books, but the demo works the same way for ICSE schools. The tutor uses the school's own syllabus and textbooks.

My child did well in Class 5 but is struggling in Class 6. Is that normal?

It is common. The new books ask children to reason and explain, not only calculate, and there are more subjects and a third language. A demo usually shows whether the issue is a missing skill or simply the new style of question.

Which third language should my child choose?

That depends on what your school offers and what your child already hears at home. For Class 6 students, remember that the choice leads to a Class 10 board exam, so a language with support at home is often the practical choice.

How many sessions a week does a Class 6 or 7 child need?

Two one-hour sessions a week is a common start. The tutor will suggest a number after the demo, based on how many subjects need help. Our note on home tuition charges in Gurgaon explains the cost side.
