Ajay Vatsyayan Classes offers one-to-one home tuition for Classes 9 and 10 in Gurgaon, with a tutor at your home or in a live online class, for CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge IGCSE and IB MYP students. These two years work as a single course for most boards, so what a student learns and chooses in Class 9 carries straight into the Class 10 exam. Below you will find what each board requires in 2026–27, how our tutors plan the secondary years, and links to the detailed Class 9, Class 10 and board-exam guides.
The rules below come from official board documents checked on 30 September 2026.
CBSE introduced two board examinations for Class 10 from 2026: the main exam ran from 17 February to 11 March 2026 and the second exam from 15 to 21 May 2026, and for regular students the better of the two performances counts (CBSE press release, 18 July 2026). Students now in Class 10 continue under the existing scheme, so they can still choose Mathematics Standard or Mathematics Basic.
According to CBSE's Secondary Curriculum 2026–27, the Standard and Basic split is being discontinued for students entering Class 9 from 2026–27. Everyone studies one common Maths and one common Science course, and students may add an optional Advanced paper in either or both subjects, worth 25 marks and one hour, first examined at the Class 10 board from 2027–28; Advanced marks are recorded separately and are not added to the aggregate. A third language (R3) is also compulsory in Class 9 this year, assessed entirely by the school with no board exam, but it must be cleared for the Class 10 certificate.
CISCE's ICSE Regulations for 2028, dated January 2026, apply to students now in Class 9. Students are registered for their subjects in Class 9, cannot change them after 15 September of that year, and cannot take a subject in Class 10 that they did not register for and study in Class 9. The Class 9 final exam is set by the school, and promotion needs at least 33% in five subjects including English plus 75% attendance. English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography are compulsory, and in these and the main elective subjects 80% of the marks come from the external exam and 20% from internal assessment.
Cambridge International describes IGCSE as a qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, so in Gurgaon's Cambridge schools the course generally runs across Grades 9 and 10 with exams at the end. Subjects such as Mathematics offer Core and Extended routes, and the tutor plans around whichever tier the school has entered your child for.
For IB schools, Grades 9 and 10 are the last two years of the MYP, which the IB describes as a programme for ages 11 to 16. Schools mark MYP work against subject criteria instead of a fixed textbook syllabus, so tutors help students plan and write each task to the criteria their teacher has shared.
Our Home Tutors Team treats Class 9 and Class 10 as one plan with two checkpoints, and each plan is written around your child's school calendar.
From our tutors: Class 10 students who drop marks in trigonometry and coordinate geometry usually have a Class 9 algebra gap, so tutors fix the algebra first and the new chapters then move faster.
From our tutors: in ICSE English and History–Geography, well-organised answers of the right length often matter as much as knowledge, so tutors time written practice from early in Class 9.
When families ask who will teach, we explain that our tutors have 5–15 years of teaching experience, and the team includes IIT and NIT graduates. Female and male tutors are both available, the brand has 12+ years in Gurgaon home tuition with 25,000+ students taught, and founder Ajay Vatsyayan reviews the board guidance our tutors use.
For home visits, our Class 9 and 10 tutors cover Gurugram neighbourhoods including Sector 50, DLF Phase 4, Sectors 60–69 and Dwarka Expressway, and online classes are open to students in any sector.
Secondary students we support attend schools such as Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Amity International School, Sector 43 and DAV Public School, Sector 49 (CBSE), The Shri Ram School, Aravali and Lt. Atul Katarya Memorial School (ICSE), and Suncity School, Sector 54 and Kunskapsskolan International School (Cambridge IGCSE) (we are not affiliated with any school named here).
No; CBSE treats the second exam as an extra opportunity for eligible students to improve on the main exam, so the decision depends on how the main exam went and which subjects need work.
It suits students who find the common course comfortable and want extra challenge, often those considering Maths or Science in Class 11, but it is optional and its marks do not count towards the aggregate.
For secondary students too, one-to-one home tuition with us usually costs ₹600 to ₹3,000 per hour depending on class, board and subject. We have written a separate piece on fair home tuition charges in Gurgaon for parents weighing costs.
Generally not, because CISCE links Class 10 subjects to the Class 9 registration, so the subject choice made at the start of Class 9 is the one to get right.
Starting in Class 9 gives the most room, since the syllabus builds across both years; students who begin in Class 10 can still be supported with a tighter plan focused on weak chapters and paper practice.
