A Bihar Board (BSEB) home tutor in Patna from Ajay Vatsyayan Classes (Patna Tutors) teaches your child one-to-one, either at your home or in a live online class, in Hindi medium or English medium, from Class 1 to Class 12. The tutor works from your child's own Bihar Board books and plans the year around the Matric (Class 10) or Intermediate (Class 12) examination. The first class is a free demo of about an hour, usually arranged within a day of your call.
This guide explains how the Matric and Intermediate papers are built, using the board's own notices and model papers, and how a tutor handles the two media, OMR practice and a move to CBSE.
Many BSEB students in Patna study in Hindi medium; others study the same syllabus in English medium. The tutor teaches in the medium your child writes the exam in. Where it helps, the tutor also explains in the other language.
There is no Bihar Board examination in these classes, so the tutor works from the school's own books and homework. The focus is on reading fluently in Hindi and English, handwriting, times tables, arithmetic with fractions and decimals, and basic science and social studies vocabulary. Gaps here tend to show up later as slow reading and weak algebra.
Class 9 builds the base for Matric: algebra, geometry, science and regular letter and essay writing. Class 10 follows the Matric pattern described below.
Intermediate students take Science (I.Sc.), Arts (I.A.) or Commerce (I.Com.). We match the tutor to the stream and subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology for Science; History, Political Science, Geography, Economics and other Arts subjects; Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics for Commerce. Science students preparing for engineering or medical entrance exams can add JEE or NEET preparation alongside the board syllabus.
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) conducts the Annual Secondary (Matric) Examination at the end of Class 10. This section is based on the board's published programme, model papers and regulations (linked at the end of this page). Rules can change, so check current notices too.
For 2026, the board's examination programme (press note PR 330/2025) set the Matric theory papers from 17 to 25 February 2026, in two shifts a day. Practical examinations for optional and vocational subjects were set for 20 to 22 January 2026, and schools had to send internal assessment marks for Science and for Social Science (literacy activity and project work) by 28 January 2026. Every paper began with 15 minutes of extra time to read the questions.
At the time of writing (30 September 2026), we could not find a published programme for the 2027 Matric examination on the board's website. The board's home page does list secondary registration held in 2026 for the 2027 examination. Please rely on your school and the board's notices for 2027 dates.
In the board's 2026 model papers, each paper has Section A (objective questions answered on an OMR sheet) and Section B (short and long written answers). Section A offers twice as many questions as you need to answer, and in the papers below it carries half of the theory marks.
| Matric paper (2026 model paper) | Time and marks | Section A (OMR) | Section B (written) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics (110) | 3 hours 15 minutes, 100 marks | 100 objective questions; answer any 50, 1 mark each | 30 short answers, attempt any 15 (2 marks each); 8 long answers, attempt any 4 (5 marks each) |
| Science (112) | 2 hours 45 minutes, 80 marks | 80 objective questions; answer any 40, 1 mark each | 24 short answers, 8 each from Physics, Chemistry and Biology; attempt 4 from each (2 marks each). One long answer from each subject (Physics 6 marks, Chemistry and Biology 5 each) |
| Hindi, mother tongue (101) | 3 hours 15 minutes, 100 marks | 100 objective questions; answer any 50, 1 mark each | Written questions including an essay of 250–300 words |
The board's Class 10 syllabus chart splits Mathematics as Number Systems 10, Algebra 20, Trigonometry 20, Coordinate Geometry 10, Geometry 20, Mensuration 10, and Statistics and Probability 10. Science is Physics 27, Chemistry 27 and Biology 26. The chart says it is based on textbooks approved by the Government of Bihar, and the books are marked as Bihar State Textbook Corporation editions.
The board's published regulations for the Secondary examination say:
So internal assessment in Science and Social Science counts towards passing; project work should not be left to the last week.
The board's own monthly syllabus chart for Class 10 spreads chapters from April to November and keeps December for revision. A tutor usually follows that rhythm, adjusted to your school's pace:
The Intermediate Annual Examination at the end of Class 12 is also conducted by BSEB. It is taken in Science (I.Sc.), Arts (I.A.), Commerce (I.Com.) and vocational courses.
According to the board's Class 11–12 syllabus (developed by SCERT Bihar and published by BSEB), every student studies two compulsory languages and three elective subjects, and may add one additional subject. The same syllabus document states that, apart from the languages, the textbooks for the elective subjects are the ones published by NCERT for Classes 11 and 12. So a Physics, Accountancy or History student in a Bihar Board school studies from NCERT books.
The board's regulations count results on five subjects: two compulsory languages of 100 marks each and three electives of 100 marks each.
For 2026, the board's programme (press note PR 329/2025) set the Intermediate theory papers from 2 to 13 February 2026, in two sittings a day with 15 minutes of "cool off" time to read the paper. The board's notice says the cool-off time is only for reading and planning; no answer may be written during it. Practical examinations were held between 10 and 20 January 2026. We could not find the 2027 Intermediate programme on the board's website at the time of writing.
The 2026 model papers follow the same two-section design as Matric.
| Stream and paper (2026 model paper) | Time and marks | Section A (OMR) | Section B (written) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Science: Physics (117), theory | 3 hours 15 minutes, 70 marks | 70 objective questions; answer any 35, 1 mark each | 20 short answers, attempt any 10 (2 marks each); 6 long answers, attempt any 3 (5 marks each) |
| Commerce: Accountancy (220) | 3 hours 15 minutes, 100 marks | 100 objective questions; answer any 50, 1 mark each | 30 short answers, attempt any 15 (2 marks each); 8 long answers, attempt any 4 (5 marks each) |
| Arts: History (321) | 3 hours 15 minutes, 100 marks | 100 objective questions; answer any 50, 1 mark each | 30 short answers, attempt any 15 (2 marks each); 8 long answers, attempt any 4 (5 marks each) |
The board's result instructions for the Intermediate examination say a candidate must get 30 per cent of the total marks in the theory part of each subject and 40 per cent in the practical part, and pass the two parts separately. First division is 300 marks and second division is 225; the remaining successful candidates are placed in third division, and 75 per cent in a subject earns a distinction in that subject.

The tutor always teaches from the edition your child's school uses, in the same medium, so chapter numbers, exercise numbers and wording match the classroom. In Classes 11 and 12, where the elective subjects use NCERT books, the tutor sticks to the language edition the student has.
The board's 2026 Mathematics model paper prints each question in Hindi and then in English. A student who knows the terms in both languages reads the paper faster and is less likely to misread a question. Our tutors keep a two-column glossary for each chapter, for example:
Hindi-medium students do not need to write in English; the aim is only to recognise the English term when it appears.
Section A carries half the theory marks in the model papers above and is read from the OMR sheet, so objective practice belongs in every week.
From our tutors: the most common OMR errors we see in practice sets are shading two circles for one question, skipping a row so every later answer shifts, and changing an answer by overwriting. Weekly practice on printed sheets usually stops all three.
This is an example for the months of steady teaching (roughly July to November), with four tuition sessions a week covering Mathematics and Science and short self-study blocks. The tutor adjusts it after the demo and the first diagnostic test.
| Day | Tuition session (about 1 hour) | Self-study (30–45 minutes) |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Mathematics: new topic from the school's current chapter, worked examples | Textbook exercise questions from the day's topic |
| Tuesday | Science: Physics or Chemistry topic, with diagrams and equations | Hindi or English: one letter, paragraph or grammar exercise |
| Wednesday | No tuition | Social Science reading and 20 objective questions |
| Thursday | Mathematics: exercise practice and doubts from school | Glossary revision in Hindi and English |
| Friday | Science: Biology topic, labelled diagrams, objective set | Sanskrit or second-language work as set by school |
| Saturday | Mixed test: 25 objective questions on an OMR sheet plus 3 short and 1 long answer, then marking together | Correct mistakes in the mistakes notebook |
| Sunday | No tuition | 30-minute weekly review of all chapters done this week |
From December, the Saturday test becomes a full model paper in one subject each week. Families can also choose tuition in all subjects.
