If you understand the basic rules of how atoms behave, you can predict the outcome of almost any reaction without ever opening a textbook. I use a "Concepts First" approach. Whether we are discussing the structure of an atom or the complexities of organic chemistry, I break the topic down into plain, everyday language. I like to use analogies that relate to real life—comparing chemical bonds to social relationships or energy levels to the floors of a building. This makes abstract ideas feel "real" and much easier to remember during a high-pressure exam.
